But remember…its “catholic”, not Roman Catholic. Do an exstensive study on where the Bible came from…it’s really interesting!Heh. If they have the Bible, then they’re putting something Catholic in their schools.![]()
I’m sure you can do a search and find on here threads concerning this topic. Trust me, we Catholics know where the Bible came from. But remember…its “catholic”, not Roman Catholic. Do an exstensive study on where the Bible came from…it’s really interesting!![]()
Amen!I’m sure you can do a search and find on here threads concerning this topic. Trust me, we Catholics know where the Bible came from.
SOME middle and upper class Christians. Not most, and certainly not this one.Joel is a product of his own success.
Middle and upper class Christians want to hear this gospel. It flows easily into ears and the message travels well on television.
.
I know people who have QUIT going to church (Mass!) because they like listening to Joel Osteen’s sermons instead. As my one friend said, " He makes me feel good about life."I have tried to sit through a Joel Osteen program on TV a few different times to see what the fuss was all about. I can sorta understand why people buy into his “preachings.” I know that not everyone who listens to and likes his message is rich, but it seems that if you are rich and you want to feel OK about it, than he’s your guy. If I made 100k a year and felt like buying a Benz and needed to justify it, I might agree with some of his stuff too. Now, don’t get me wrong, if I work hard and earn my 100k a year (I’m a state employee, I dont’ make anywhere near that much) I personally don’t see anything wrong with buying that Benz, insofaras it doesn’t remove me from my relationship with Christ and His Church. I was once told that it’s OK to own things, just don’t let those things own you.
I’d be interested to see, though, how many people start going to his church because of the cotton candy-touchy-feely-shiny-happy-people message only to realize that he’s only scratching the surface and end up leaving for another church that actually gets into the meat and potatoes of what Christianity is all about. I guess what I’m saying is that he might be a good starting point to spark interest in Christianity, but probably not the best place to turn for the good stuff.
I think that Protestantism is very seductiveI’m getting concerned at the number of Catholics that I know who are regularly watching and spreading the message of Joel Osteen. Even the principal of our Catholic school was telling the teachers about how much she likes him and believes him. .
Yeah, have you ever seen a hearse with U-Haul behind it?Unfortunately, Joel Osteen is not preaching what the Bible says to preach. He does not spread the TRUE gospel of Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 talks about what is of first importance when you preach the gospel and that is the DEATH, BURIAL, and RESURRECTION of Jesus Christ. You can draw people to church anyway you want, but it isn’t worth anything if youre not preaching what is of FIRST importance! You are not saved through your prosperity!!! His selfserving gospel saddens my heart deeply. Where is our Savior’s work finished for us, in all of it?
I have a lot of Protestant friends that think…or KNOW, that this man is not preaching the gospel. They think he is apostate as much as I do. So whether you are of Roman Catholic faith or Baptist or Lutheren, etc…you still need to know the truth of the gospel. Protestantism as well as Roman Catholicism is seductive if it’s soothing your “itching ears”,or telling you the things you want to hear. Joel Osteen sooths peoples minds under the name of Protestantism, but is he preaching the gospel of my Protestant friends? They would say, “absolutely not!” And really, the guy needs to lay off the Crest Whitestrips…sorry could not help myself.I think that Protestantism is very seductive
Yes, God. He wrote the Bible through men whom He inspired. No prophecy of scripture came about by the prophets own interpretation, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. And thankfully some men were able to put together the Scriptures, the words given by God to the Prophets and Apostles, for us and thankfully some men were able to translate that Bible so some we can actually read and study that Bible. Otherwise we’d all still be in the dark listening to someone else tell us what to believe. I’m sure you, like me, are thankful for those men (and women) that died so the truth could be known and read by all. I thank the Lord for my Bible and the salvation I have through Christ’s shed blood for me. That was made known to me through His word and the preaching of His word.I’m sure you can do a search and find on here threads concerning this topic. Does His Word mean ONLY the written Word?Yes, God. He wrote the Bible through men whom He inspired. IndeedYes, God.
Did He actually write it?He wrote the Bible through men whom He inspired.
Please tell me who men those were, and while you’re at it, tell me which Church they were a part of.No prophecy of scripture came about by the prophets own interpretation, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. How was it made known, and who did the preaching? That was made known to me through His word and the preaching of His word.![]()
My answer depends on your what your question is…How did the apostles make it known or how do priests and pastors and ministers make it known?Indeed
Did He actually write it?
Yes…through men whom He inspired. The Bible is the inspired word of God. Do you not believe this?
Please tell me who men those were, and while you’re at it, tell me which Church they were a part of.
**As I said, the Prophets and the Apostles. The “universal” Church. That is what “Catholic” means, right? They weren’t heretics which is why the Church used the word “Catholic”/“universal” in the first place…to distiguish the heretics from those preaching the True Gospel of Jesus Christ…The heretics were usually focused in one distinct area, whereas the true church was known throughout the “world”.
Great. As I said, I am too. So we have that in common.Code:**I am
Amen
Yes
How was it made known, and who did the preaching?
From a strictly historical standpoint, do you know WHO those men were? And HOW the Bible was handed down prior to the invention of the printing press? That is I beleive the important part that you are skipping over here.My answer depends on your what your question is…How did the apostles make it known or how do priests and pastors and ministers make it known?
I think you are right.Well, it may not be a popular thing to say, but it seems to me that American Catholicism is very very influenced by evangelical Christianity, and even fundamentalism. Not really at the level of the clergy, but at the popular level.
