Hello everyone. I was just watching television and I was watching a program called Jesus The preacher and they were speaking of a Gospel called Que? Does anyone know what theyre talking about? They are saying thats were Matthew, Mark and Luke got their storys from? Im very confused please if anyone has some insight into this let me know. Thanks and God bless you all!

According to some scholars, the authors of the first three Gospels drew not only from their own memories but from another, now completely lost, source. This source is known as ‘Q’. To my knowledge, this theory is not considered valid by the Church.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Q_document has more information.

I think I saw that program too along with a few others, Drew,

I thought how distorted much of the information regarding Christ was shown this Christmas season. And, I felt a lot of sorrow for those who innocently accepted these telecasts as “truth”. Most of these programs focused on Christ’s humanity and completely ignored His Divinity.

Yesterday I saw a program that really made me laugh at the “human logic” expressed - it went something like this: “All the pictures of Jesus are painted in error because of the depiction of the length of His hair. The church (I think they referring to us) has mislead the people because (somewhere) in the bible it reads that long hair on a man is unacceptable to God, so therefore Jesus would not have had long hair.”

Now forget that they blatantly accused Jesus of having an affair and/or wife and children - this hair thing was a real problem for them :whacky:.

This Christmas season?? How about EVERY Christmas and Easter season, just like clockwork. And not just TV, but movies, magazines, schools, and the radio. If I were the suspicious type, I’d say there was a connection

The hypothesis that there was such a “Q” document is accepted by many but not all bible scholars, Catholic or otherwise. The Church has never addressed this theory definitively. Catholics may accept, reject, or ignore this theory based on their own judgement of the evidence.

I’m not an expert, but as far as I can determine the evidence for the existance of Q is weak.

I was just looking the other day at the notes in my edition of the NAB and they give a very quick overview of the synoptic gospel theory.

Mark + Q + M = Matthew

Mark + Q + L = Luke
