The Grain of the Eucharist

Is a grain specified for the eucharist? I ask because some people are allergic to certain grains: wheat, for example.

My understanding is that even if someone cannot recieve the body, reception of the blood alone is equally valid, vice-versa.

Wheat is required. And yes, reception of Holy Communion under one species alone is perfectly sufficient.

Wheat is a requirement. I think the most commonly sought-after substitute for wheat (by Celiac Disease sufferers) is rice, but following an attempted Consecration this would simply remain a rice wafer. It is invalid matter.

As GoLatin stated, Our Lord is equally and fully present in either of the Eucharistic Species.

And even if some poor person cannot have either wheat or wine, he can still enjoy a spiritual communion and offer up his inability to receive as a sacrifice in union with the Sacrifice of the Altar.
