No, Jon. What I am getting at, is isolating that one sentence, taking it out of the context of the papal bull and the issue behind it, is what caused the interpretation to be wrong…coupled with building a whole thinking behind it…that the pope is anti-christ.

And there are different levels of "dislike’ too…from low intensity to extreme intensity.

Nope, does not apply to you…God can save whoever He wants.

I am not dodging the question. The whole content of the papal bull is true to those it was sent, taken as a whole and the context and the issue it was addressing.

It is wrong when it is isolated and taken out of context and a whole different meaning put behind it and the animosity built behind it.

I wonder, since you do not believe that statement from Unam Sanctam…and you have not provided one person who has been led to hell by the pope for not being in communion with him…why do you have so much angst against that isolated statement?

I really don’t, except that it was that position of the Catholic Church that the Lutheran reformers were responding to with the “anti-Christ” charge.

I’ve read all the material you have provide, including the explanations…and my observation is these are attempts to rationalize the belief…to make it more palatable.

I could say the same, that your attempt to marginalize the profession from Unam Sanctam, that it is an isolated statement, etc. The wording of it, and the history of its interpretation seems more than just an isolated statement.

Well…I wonder why you did not, or maybe you did, become Orthodox since you seem to have much admiration for all things of the OC?

First, I’m a western Christian. Second, the opportunity to explore it has never presented itself, having lived most of my adult life in more rural southern American settings.
