The Great LDS Apostasy?

O.K. but nothing I said was without a base, (unless of coruse you consider your prophets, apostles, and your scriptures “baseless”).

You belong to a religion that calls every other religion apostate, why is it O.K. for you to do that and call Catholics idol worshippers here, but when I call the current SLC church apostate mormons it is “an attack”? Your very own prophets would demand I call the current SLC apostate, Joe Smith called polygamy the “new and everlasting” covenant, now it gets one excommunicated if practiced? Joe Smith would be rolling over in his grave if he knew polygamy would become grounds for excommunication. If that doesn’t prove apostasy from your founding prophets teachings I don’t know what does.

However, on pro-Mormon websites, one cannot find attacks against catholics or protestants. I have visited many prolds websites and I have found nothing but respect for other religions. But on this catholic forum, I can read attacks against the lds faith. Go figure.

I’ve been posting on mormonapologetics message board for years back when it was FAIRboards.org and I can say unequivocally you are wrong. If you don’t believe me look up the postings of consiglieri and pacman. (pacman posted here for about 2 days but was promptly banned, he vehemently attacks all of Christendom especially Catholics). You’re wrong plain as day wrong. MADB is very strictly moderated but attacks (if you classify my inquiries as attacks) happen everyday there too…

The wholesale apostasy of Christianity is routinely brought up. In fact I am willing to bet there are no fewer than three topics on it this very minute. How is me calling into question whether or not the current SLC Church is in apostasy based on their “early LDS church fathers” any different?

In Provo, Utah, there exists the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies (FARMS) renowned as a Mormon think-tank, FARMS is owned and operated by Brigham Young University (BYU) and the Mormon Church. Their mission seeks to repudiate the opposition, applaud its supporters, and justify many peculiar Mormon doctrines. This book demonstrates that FARMS often twists the truths to justify Mormon doctrines. To justify their position they often will utilize inane accusations, misquotes and equivocation. This collection of deceit from Mormon scholarship is what Matt Paulson has identified as the ¿breaking of the Mormon Code.¿

This book is unlike other apologetics in that Paulson does not set out to prove that Mormonism is theologically incorrect. Instead, he reveals the ways in which Mormon scholars deceive their readers by misquoting, taking out of context, and misapplying the teachings of the Early Christian Church Fathers. Paulson also touches on a few of the many scriptures the Mormon Church twists into aberrant meanings through eisegesis and exegesis. Through the use of fallacious arguments these same scholars attempt to seduce Mormons and Christians alike into believing that there is little difference between what Christian Church Fathers taught and what the LDS Church teaches today.

Paulson’s book performs two very valuable services in the academic arena. First of all, he demonstrates conclusively that many LDS scholars have been less than professional in the way that they have selectively quoted-- and sometimes, misquoted – early Christian Fathers and heretic writers of the last 2000 years, with the aim of making it seem that Mormonism restores the original, doctrinally pure Gospel of the first century AD. Paulson’s second contributions are his helpful charts and lists. Especially useful is the comparison of classic Christian creeds with the LDS Articles of Faith–which is, as Paulson shows, indeed itself a creed.

I don’t know which pro-Mormon websites you’ve visited, but there are many that are derisive towards Christianity and the Christian God. Check out myegyptology.net/index.htm for an example. On his page entitled “My response to anti-Mormomism”, he makes fun of the Christian God, characterizes Catholics as belonging to the “dark ages”, and reviles the concept of hell and other Christian concepts.

So before you get all holier-than-thou, look around a bit. You may recall that LDS missionaries start out their discussions by declaring that our religion is wrong and that our creed is an “abomination”, which means it is “filthy and disgusting”. If that’s not an attack I don’t know what is.
