I have wanted for some time to start a series of threads where people can debate and spiritually nourish each other on the Truths of our Faith.

The topics I would like us all to discuss for starters are:

The Eucharist
The Incarnation (would be good to time this for Advent)
The Virginity of our Blessed Virgin Mother Mary
The Divinity of Christ Jesus
The Passion and Cross of Christ Jesus
The Resurrection
The Gifts of the Holy Spirit
Spirituality and calling to spiritualites
God and His Angels
God and His Saints

Please feel free to add to the list, there’s no point talking about things people don’t want to discuss so add to the list and we’ll decide amongst ourselves which topic to discuss. It would eb good if someone would step forward for each topic and lead it, so any volunteers to lead this topic of the Eucharist?

So for starters we will discuss the Eucharist just to get things off the bat.

Please post things such as:

Sayings of the Saints on the topic
Encyclicals from the Pope and former Pope’s on the topic
Meditations
Your personal meditations on the topic
Ideas surrounding theology on the topic
Your personal spiritual experiences and development in relation to the topic.
Anything you want to say about the topic.

About the Eucharist, when Jesus died on the Cross, some recognized Him as God; others didn’t and saw Him as a criminal.

When a priest holds the Eucharist, some see the Eucharist as Christ; others saw it a bread.

Have faith.

have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord. A person should examine
himself, and so eat the bread and drink the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks
without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself

St Paul would not have said all of this if the bread you see by appearance was not the Body of Christ Jesus in His Real Presence

It is a great deal, in these seemingly small signs, God reveals a great deal about Himself therefore they are great signs.🙂 I think a soul cannot greatly love the Cross of JesuS without loving His Incarnation.

I think this speaks for itself.

I too agree with this. I think Pope Benedict the 16th also asked the faithful to do this. I often think when you see ‘private intention’ on the Mass list in the Parish it is for some person this side of life.

“The institution of the Eucharist demonstrates how Jesus’ death, for all its violence and absurdity, became in him a supreme act of love and mankind’s definitive deliverance from evil,” Pope Benedict wrote.

How aweful I had been for not meditating on the humility of Jesus regarding the Eucharist - He was born poor, died poor, and now living poor.
 
I like to reflect on manna and the miracle of the loaves and fishes being the prefigurement of the Eucharist. It didn’t matter how much was collected or distrubuted, there was always enough. When the people went out looking for the manna on the 7th day, they found it wasn’t there. Instead, Christ provided a different sort of bread for the 7th day with the Last Supper.

Just as the matzo was eaten in the seder as part of the anemnisis event where all of creation past and furture was present, we have the Body of Christ in a simple loaf of bread broken and distributed in the anemnisis of the Eucharistic celebration.

The link through all of history of the sustenance and nourishment of bread provided by the Lord for His people and the closeness it brings me to the timelessness of God is something I like to dwell on.
 
When we receive the Eucharist we are having both physical and spiritual union with our Lord. Mass is Heaven on earth and Eucharist is the jewel of the crown in heaven. Receiving the Eucharist is the ultimate intimacy between man and God.

When Jesus said he would be with us to the end of the world, he not only sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in our hearts, he also instituted the Eucharist to nourish our body.

Eucharist, the real Presence of Christ’s body, blood, soul and divinity, is a treasure beyond measure.

Thank God for the Eucharist!

I am often struck by the people who, over the past 2 thousand years, have been willing to die to protect The Eucharist. When I am at Mass, I feel as though I am standing on the shoulders of giants.
 
Can you believe I forgot my own thread 😃 !!? I can. I’m like that, forgetful and incapable. Want to know how I remembered it? I went to Mass today and received the Eucharist, so there you go, God does all the work and I’m a dodo.

If people would like to leave this thread now and go onto another topic can someone suggest a topic that is a Great Truth and Mystery of our faith. To make it totally unfair,😃 , first suggestion will be the one we go with. Please complain to God about the selection process for the topics because I can’t work out any other way to choose them.🙂 See told you I was forgetful and incapable. If you have a better suggestion for how topics are selected please shout up and let me know and if its complex then I’ll hand the job over to you:) Never let it be said that there is anything wrong with delegation, God does it all the time.

The following is something I’ve used several times over the years especially when I’ve had an encounter (unplanned) with a protestant who doubts the real presence in the Eucharist or even a catholic with a crisis of faith:
I’m reminded of a time in which Jesus was talking to his apostles and disciples. And He was telling them about eating His flesh and drinking His blood…and how if you don’t you can’t have life in you etc etc. Now keep in mind that Jesus was talking in a time, place and people who had a complete aversion to drinking blood and were very cautious about the flesh they ate; but Jesus was talking about His Flesh!! Consequently, comments arouse from the disciples and a large group of them said something to the effect that the doctrine is too harsh, we cannot stand it or cannot accept it - and they left. We pause here for a moment…If Jesus had been talking about a symbol, a future plan to institute a symbol for something that would establish the mass, wouldn’t He have ran after the disciples and said, “wait, wait you guys, I meant it as a symbol!!” No, He didn’t. Why would Jesus risk loosing disciples if what He was telling them was a symbol? To scandalize them? To handle a much more manageable group of 12? Well, it gets better. Keep in mind that the minds of the 12 apostles must’ve been reeling, what to think? what to do? Suddenly, Jesus turns to them. They must’ve thought He was going to let them off the hook and tell 'em, “Those dummies, they didn’t realize I was talking figuratively”. But instead He asked them, " and you, what are you going to do?" I can picture the scene, a quick look around and Peter (the de facto spokesman) says to Jesus, " Master who are we going to turn to, you have the words of life".
And there you have it. The true and real presence of Christ in the Eucharist by Jesus Himself.
