The Great Whore of Babylon is Jerusalem because they did not recognized Jesus Christ as their Messiah. Babylon is the code name for Rome used by writers of the NT.

Babylon and the Harlot conspire to destroy the Christians. This all started after Jesus ascended into heaven, and when the Apostle preached the Gospels ‘orally.’

When the Sandhedrin noticed a large number of people converting to this religion of Christ, they tried to shut the Apostles out. The Apostle lead by Peter refuse and continue to preach the Good News.

The Sandhedrin (Pharisees) persecuted the Christians started with St. Stephen (first Christian martyr). Soon after that Saul seek out the Apostles and the Christians until he himself was converted.

Then later on indirectly in another part of the Roman Empire, a certain Roman Emperor Nero set fire to Rome. The Jewish leaders who did not like the Apostles convince Nero that it was Christians who burn. So Nero sent out an eddict throughout the Empire killing all Christians.

The killing ended when Nero erected a statue of himself in Holy Temple. The Jews became angry and revolted. Thus began the Jewish-Roman Wars 67-70 A.D. At this time, Christian persecution ended (only briefly, there would be other Emperors who would continue to persecute Christians). The Holy Temple Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 A.D just as Jesus predicted.

Whore of Babylon is Jerusalem, Harlots are the Jewish Leaders, and Babylon is Pagan Rome.

John is said to be written around 90 AD, how could he be giving a prophecy from events that just past.

Jerusalem does not sit on 7 hills? The woman is not Jerusalem. Jesus did predict the destruction of the temple, but this has nothing to do with the woman in Rev 17 being Jerusalem.

The seven mountains or seven hills refer to seven pagan Roman Emperors who would be responsible for presecuting Christians. Do you assumed that the woman is the Catholic Church, which many hardcore Evangelical Christians proclaim the Catholic Church to be?

Many of them try to inteprete Revelations in the modern context. Revelations should be interprete in the context of the writer’s trying to convey when he wrote it. Half of the prohecy in Revelation has already been fulfilled except for the Second Coming of Christ. The woman in this passage can be also interpreted as Pagan Rome not the Catholic Church…

I agree. This has often been my point when arguing with SDA’s.The great President Jim Iicoudis president emeritus has written prolifically on the SDA and their criticism of the CC. I recommend going to the internet and looking at some of his works.

Half of the prohecy in Revelation has already been fulfilled except for the Second Coming of Christ.

The JW’s believe the second coming has already occured. They teach that Christ ‘sneaked back’ and took the elite with Him. This is definitely contrary to scripture which says the Second Coming will be a very visual and experiential event. Hardly indicative of the Lord sneaking about!!

If the SDA is right in being the true church, who do they think gave them the bible? Only 5 explanations are possible:

It was given by God as a written book

It was brought by angels

It was brought by aliens

It was concocted by a group of well intentioned story-writers

It was composed by the CC

Actually, I find the idea of the SDA a bit offencive to suggest that the blessed Lord had to wait 1860 years before the church of which He spoke could come into existence. Not a very credible God who cannot do better than that.

One wonders what will happen when the next sect comes into existence which also claims to be the ‘true church’ in opposition to the SDA. Logic says it will happen sooner or later

I misunderstood. The question posed by the OP was “Is this true, Is this Mormon doctrine?” So I thought you were a Mormon denying the prophets’ teachings, as they so often do. I am also Catholic, and an ex-Mormon to boot!

I should remember to check profiles.

Read the Book of Daniel in the OT, The two books coincide with each other.

No body here claims everyone to be evil. Though however, there are those who are ignorant of Catholicism. This forum is meant to give Non-Catholic Christians what the Church actually teaches. Just as 1 Tim 3:15, the Pillar and Bulwark of the Truth is the Church.

The Church safe guard the Truth, which is revealed by Jesus Christ.

Actually, the LDS church is a true and legitimate child of the Protestant Reformation. After all, if you reject the Church’s authority to be the sole interpreter of Scripture, then it’s not a big leap from there to rejecting her authority to be the sole producer of it. When the Mormon church came up with the Book of Mormon – unrestrained by sola scriptura, since the Bible doesn’t say there are no other Scriptures – all it really did was take personal judgment to a new (and entirely logical) level.

So I guess that would make the LDS church the Grandharlot of the Great Whore.

Ha Ha Ha. I am used to the woman I love [and whom Christ loves] being called ‘the Great Whore’, but I have never heard of Protestants called ‘her Harlots’. I do think it rather amusing that those who protest at us are tarred with the same brush.

I know, which is why I used this thingie / The other religion are evil posts can be seen in other threads (esp. any with Islam in the title). My post was just pointing out that when it comes to religion (monotheistic ones anyways) they all claim to be 100% correct. Picking the right one or even denomination becomes very difficult as there are many truths, psedeotruths, rumos, stories, or even lies told.

When it comes to it, theres a better chance (statistically) of getting the right religion out of a hat Its ok to think christianity is correct, just dont be surprised when others claim the same
