Why does environmentalism and population control usually go hand in hand? There is a difference between caring for the environment and worshiping it. Misanthropy or Malthusian philosophies are usually the parcel sold along with environmentalism.
There are different strands of environmentalism, just like there are different denominations of Christianity – some of them quite cultish and weird.
However, there is this reality that we should face up to: humans are causing quite a few serious environmental problems that harm and kill humans, as well as others of God’s creation. Pope Francis has in a couple of weeks repeatedly called us to protect creation and the environment, “which all too often, instead of using for the good, we exploit greedily, to one another’s detriment” (
vatican.va/holy_father/francesco/speeches/2013/march/documents/papa-francesco_20130322_corpo-diplomatico_en.html).
There is this fallen human nature, including selfishness, and some people want their own children and progeny to survive and thrive, and are even eager to promote abortion for others, etc.
I often tell those types: it doesn’t make sense to kill children in order to save the world for the children.
The flip side the question, the more important question, is if anti-greens love their children and wish well for their progeny, then why are they so willing to harm and kill them thru environmental harms?
And what really gets me is how someone can be anti-abortion AND anti-green. Methinks they are not really anti-abortion, but just use that as something to make themselves feel good by pointing out sins of others. They neither really care for other people’s fetuses, nor do they care for their own children and progeny. They only care for themselves.
