I have to wonder how much of the pro-life movement’s success is due to something as simple as math. When the pro-choice and pro-contraception crowd are quite literally championing the merits of avoiding births you have to think they are digging their own grave.

In the approximately 50 years since the inception of the pill and about 40 years since the legalization of abortion, we are seeing a more pro-life youth movement. Many of these kids are 2+ generations removed from those that were young adults during the early 60’s. It looks to me like a good portion of the success of the pro-life movement’s growth can be attributed to the fact that the pro-life movement WANTS their members to multiply. While the pro-choice crowd must rely on bringing in new members because they fail to “grow their own” in such great numbers, pro-lifers are raising their own successors- and at numbers higher than the replacement rate in many families.

What do y’all think?

I heard Carol Everett, a former abortion provider, speak at my college 20+ years ago. She made the statement that the pro-life movement would ultimately win because we’re the ones having babies.

Unfortunately, it’s not simple math. Liberals have so much control over media and education that many children raised in conservative and Christian homes are being pulled away. Of course, we always have the power of prayer…

Is the pro-life movement growing?
Yes, it is. Watch the March for Life in Washington DC in January. You will see a LOT of teens and young adults. They are the SURVIVORS of abortion. And they realize that a lot of their siblings and friends are missing because of abortion. Praise God for young people. I know they will end this horrible holocaust, and people will look back and wonder how we ever let it go on for 50 years.

oh, and P.S. - the ONLY place you will see coverage of the March is on EWTN, although it is a MAJOR event in DC. The lamestream media will NOT cover it.

I hope that the movement is growing. Is there any measurable objective evidence that it is?

How about outside of the USA? Thanks!

IIRC, something like 1 in 5 pregnancies in the US today ends in abortion. If it were 1 in 50 or 1 in 20 you could make a reasonable argument that it would have no long term demographic effect. But 1 in 5 is such a HUGE number that it has to have long term impacts. It HAS to mean that women that otherwise would strongly influence their children to asupport “abortion rights” are killing them instead and that more kids are growing up in an environment where their mothers teach them that killing the unborn is wrong. How many of those latter kids fall victim to the influence of culture later is another matter, but the parental influence HAS to be significant.

Here is an article citing a very recent Gallup poll:

Here is a Pew Rsearch article from a couple years back, which showed a real decline in support for abortion:

I haven’t looked into trends outside the US, but that would be interesting to see.

This makes perfect sense. Very ironic, isn’t it? Essentially aborting themselves out of existence.

Or the religious sect in American history called the “Shakers.” Their beliefs included the idea that sexual intimacy of all kinds (including marriage) was debased and worldly and not permitted. They only reproduced via converts and the orphanages they ran. They died out.

Hopefully today’s culture of death eventually does too.

To be funny, someone contributed money to Plan to be parents of an aborted childhood in my name, so now they send me pleas for contributions. ( I send the card back with a prayer, and my prayers are costing them the price of postage.) But anyway, from the frequency/intensity of their frantic demands for money so they can continue their evil plans in the name of women’s rights, I’d say they are getting worried. I used to hear from them every year, now its every month or two. They keep going on and on about how women’s “right to choose” is under attack now more than ever, and if I don’t give them money NOW, I will lose the right to abort my unborn child. (REALLY??? YOU PROMISE? Tell you what, I wont’ send the money, and the right to kill children will be taken away, that would be awesome!) Their letter starts “Dear Friend. This has got to stop”. Yeah, it does. Please stop it.

I think its part of it, but probably only a teensy part.

I’d say technology has played a massive role in the pro-life movement’s growth over the last 40 years. Access to information as well, back in the 80s if a teen got pregnant, what’s her options? The internet? Flick on her iPhone and google foetal development? She woudln’t know really what kind of support is available, and she certainly wouldn’t hear much about the risks both physical and emotional.

Now adays, girls get online, they search, whether they end up aborting or not, they have acess to more then just a few grainy ultrasound pictures on a 20 year pamplet.

The pro-abortion argumetns really do look like nonsense now, 40 years ago they coudl easily say it was a blob, and it was “non-human”, but now, thanks to embryscopy, 3D ultrasound, et cetera, they look like a pack of ignorant idiots if they say its not human!

I have confidence we’ll win in time, but we need to be on our guard, this is the final battle, the pro-abortion juggernaught isn’t going to let this cash cow be taken out of their hands.

Baby steps in the UK. Very tiny baby steps against giant strides of government-funded abortuaries and the political rhetoric on “rights” of women to abort.
Praying for you! The first 40 Days for Life campaign over there went amazingly well! We have to start somewhere!

Many thanks. And, yes, it did! We are starting 40 Days for Life pre–Advent prayer vigils on 26th September through to 4th November.

Anticipating our “baby steps”, BPAS is staging a debate early next week to *“examine the challenges posed by the activities of anti-abortion protestors outside clinics for those with a commitment to freedom of speech.” * So, it would appear that the latter group could turn the tide for us with regards to overt hostility towards our prayer vigils. Please continue to pray for us as BPAS is employing a divide and conquer strategy. Another issue posed in that debate refers to: “Is limiting the freedom of speech of anti-abortion protestors necessary and proportionate to protect women?”

I know you are operating without our precious 1st Amendment…It makes me humble to think of the obstacles you face.
