Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today’s Gospel stirred my heart, and I hope it stirs many others, especially these verses:
…At the sight of the crowds, His heart was moved with pity for them
because they were troubled and abandoned,
like sheep without a shepherd.
Then he said to his disciples,
“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;
so ask the master of the harvest
to send out laborers for His harvest." (Mt. 9 36-38)
Where are the “laborers” today? The harvest remains abundant for God calls all to holiness but where are the laborers needed to be there for the Master to send them out? This past Sunday, we heard also the sending out of 72 and that spoke to me as well. It is not just the 12 who were sent out, but Jesus sent out 72 and for me that says again, it is not just the priests and religious missionaries who need to labor for souls. The Church exists to evangelize! What are you and I doing? Are we asking the Lord to send out laborers? Are we willing to be the ones sent out? Are we in the vineyard, but not laboring???

Yes, I think it is essential for us to engage with the entire Church in the mission of evangelization, not only by our words but by our lives. We have to show the Love and Mercy of God by encountering with our brothers and sisters in all that we do. We have to go and “make haste” to spread the Gospel as Mary did to visit her cousin Elizabeth and we have to spread the Love of God especially to the poor and vulnerable who are all around us.

May God bless us and grant us the ability to spread His Gospel to all who are near! 🙂

Dear Richard,

Thanks so much for your reply.

How grateful I am one other heart (yours) was stirred and sees by faith how essential evangelization is! Perhaps others were but did not have time to reply.

“The Church exists to evangelize” – Pope Paul VI realized and wrote that Truth for all of us to hear deeply and more than hear – to do the Truth we hear. Baptized into His Body, we are to live His Life and Mission. Yes, Mary realized the Gift she carried within her by the power of the Holy Spirit and she went with haste, carrying Him to Elizabeth and Baby John within his mother’s womb. By God’s Grace, have we carried Jesus to anyone today? I hope so.
