The Historicity of the Bible

Hello there,

I’m wondering what books one might suggest for a scholarly look at the historical reliability of the Bible. Most notably the New Testament, but I wouldn’t be adverse to reading about the Old as well.

So far the only book I’ve found on it is “The Historical Reliability of the Gospels” by Craig L. Blomberg. I haven’t been able to find a copy in any libraries so I may have to buy it, but I’d like to have more than just one book to read on the topic. This issue has been around since pretty much the beginning of the Church so I would think there should be a number of books on it by now, but I’m having trouble finding any.

The Bible by Isaac Asimov. It comes in 2 volumes; Vol 1, the Old Testiment, and Vol 2, the New Testiment. He goes through the history of the region around which the Bible events are happening.

As for buying a book that is not available through you local library, try doing an Inter-library loan. see you librarian for how to do that.

The three volume Rethinking the Historical Jesus series by the Jesuit John Meier (published under the imprimatur).
