Anyone follow hockey?

I re-upped my NHL.TV subscription yesterday because they were having a Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale. Got an additional 10% off for using my Discover Card.

I was rewarded by watching my Red Wings give up 3 first period goals to the Blue Jackets. At least they battled back and made it close at the end. Final score was 7-5 after Columbus got an empty net goal in the final couple of minutes.

It’s my favorite sport to watch, but I haven’t been following it that closely the last couple years due to lack of TV and money to pay for any subscriptions. I think I’ve only managed to catch 2-3 Hawks games in the last couple years, and with the exception of one, all were pretty disappointing displays on the Hawks part. At least Tampa put on a show the couple times I saw them.

I’m still coming to grips with the dynasty ending and some of Bowman’s moves, especially the Panarin/Saad trade. That Panarin-Anisimov-Kane line was among the best in the league, and Saad has been about what we all expected - not able to fill Panarin’s shoes. In general, though, the team just doesn’t seem to have the drive they did during the dynasty years. That 2015 run was insane!

Anyways, I’m hoping to get to more games in the next few years and watch more on TV, but I’ll be in Sharks territory. Chances are, I’ll be spending more time rooting for them than the Hawks, especially since they’re actually Cup contenders.

Husband used to watch the Pens. I ended up wearing a Pens jersey to his wake as being from Cleveland, I couldn’t very well wear a Steelers one.

I tend to follow AHL because it has the Hershey Bears, who play not far from where I work, and also the Monsters, who won the cup for my birth city a few months before the Cavs won big. I happened to be at the winning Monsters game which was pretty exciting. I wish they had not changed the team name to Cleveland Monsters though. It kinda ruined the imagery so I went back to supporting the Hershey Bears.

I remember when the Cavs finally won, the hockey subreddit hijacked the victory to talk about the Monsters finally bringing a championship win to Cleveland. It managed to get to the top of Reddit that day.

I’m surprised you ever stopped supporting the Bears.

When a Cleveland team is winning the first championship the city has had in 52 years (not counting the short-lived soccer team), I’m not going to be That Guy sitting at the Q in a Bears jersey.

My husband’s family thought it was awesome I wore the Pens jersey to the viewing. When you have to sit with your loved one’s corpse all day, you want to be comfortable. But don’t worry, I wore a dress the next day when the priest came over to do the prayers.

I am a Pens fan, but I lost some enthusiasm when Marc Andre Fleury left for Vegas. I probably won’t be a fan of his new team, but he will always be my favorite goalie. 🙂

I’ve been a hockey fan my entire life - was privileged to be able to see Gordie Howe play in the 60s at the Olympia. Best memories ever. I watched the Wings last night, too.

Just to be clear, I was kidding about disapproval.

I like Fleury. I’m glad he got out of that hellhole Pittsburgh. Now if only Kessel would leave…

In all seriousness, though, Pittsburgh was a really fun team to watch during their two Cup runs. I only pray that they’re never that fun to watch again, because I can only take so much of wanting to watch them win. Granted, I did root for the Sharks in 2016, but one of the few teams I dislike more than Pittsburgh are the Mustard Cats Predators.

My team won the 1994 Junior Goodwill Games. Those were the days…

Red Wings beat the Blues last night. They had a 3 goal lead, but then the Blues came back to tie it in the third period. I was thinking, oh no, here we go again. I’ve lost track of the times the Wings have blown a 3rd period lead in the last few seasons. Fortunately, this time, they got a late goal for the win.

I just wish we’d play St. Louis more than one time in each other’s building. I do miss the Original 6 -

Hawks are down. I guess we’ll see. They seem to do better late game lately.

But St. Louis wasn’t part of the original six.

I know, but I followed the Blues when the Wings traded Garry Unger - so I like them:)

@ZMystiCat are you watching the Red Wings and the Bruins? Old time hockey.

I used to be really in to hockey. Would watch all the Habs games. Haven’t followed hockey too terribly closely in recent years. Les Canadiens seront mon équipe préférée toujours.

No, I was flying during the game. Besides, I don’t think it was televised where I was coming from or going to.

On top of that, the Hawks decided to give me a little present - a terrible loss and news of another meltdown from Keith.
