Is the Holy Fire really doesn’t burn at all.:eek:

Have anyone here really tested that himself/herself?

Can I put my hand above it for a long time, if that is the case, should the person be Christian to be able not get burned, or the pagans also can test that?

I know people who’ve been in Jerusalem for the Holy Light. They tell me that for a short time after the Light appears, it does not burn (usually about a half hour).

Not sure whether this would apply to non-Christians. Don’t know any non-Christians who’ve tried it.

I did not understand what Sam was talking about because i could not watch the video. But since i read it in a Kuwaiti newspaper, now i get it. it is fascinating…too bad i cannot go to Jerusalem for political reasons, but has anyone been there? anyone witnessed it here on the forum?

YW. I wish some Western media would do a story on it. Maybe Fox news can next year. I had not heard of it before. WOW. That is AWESOME. I would love some of our Orthodox brethren to speak about it.

Wikipedia, for what that is worth, has pointed out that no attempt to prove it to be a hoax has succeeded. It also mentioned that if it is a hoax, it is the longest running hoax ever, lasting centuries.

It only comes out for the Orthodox, by the way. The Roman Catholics and Armenians have tried and failed. 😃
 
It is something that every Orthodox hopes to witness and experience. I have heard talks about it in my parish, though none of us have gone there personally yet.
 
I hope to witness and experience as well, and am Catholic.

Even as a Catholic, i believe the Orthodox timing of Easter is more accurate. Every year during Easter, the sky becomes clouded and it rains, even if the day started with absolutely no cloud in it.

The Holy Fire appeared in Temple of the Tomb of Christ in the earliest period of Christianity. The descent of Holy Fire on the eve of Holy Resurrection of Christ is described by Gregorij Hissky, Evsevij Kesarjevskij and Silvij Akfivantsky dating from 4th century. Evsevij Pamfilij writes in his Ecclesiastica History that once that was not oil for lamps and Patriarch Nartsiss (II century) poured water into Lamps from Siloam source and there came fire from Heaven to light the lamp. Latin monk Bernard (865 year) writes in his description of Ierusalem: “On blessed Saturday which is evening of Paskha, a service begins early and by the end of service all are singing Lord have Mercy with the arrival of an angel which lights the lamps hanging over the Tomb.” In 1099 after coming of Cross-bearers the Latin patriarchs of Ieruslaem could not receive Holy Fire which made King Balduin I return local Orthodox their rights. Most remarkable in 1579 the Armenians convinced Sultan to let them have Holy Tomb. Armeninan patriarch does not allow orthodox patriarch to enter church. So Holy Fire comes down striking building next to where Orthodox patriarch is standing. This is only occasion of Holy Fire coming down not in Kuvkulion (such chapel of Temple of Tomb). Scar on stone of temple is still seen to this day:

Also in 2008, Holy Fire has come down and has been sent all over world.

Here is what Pope Urban said of the Holy Fire in 1096 when he was urging Western Christendom to liberate Jerusalem from the Muslims:

"Of holy Jerusalem, brethren, we dare not speak, for we are exceedingly afraid and ashamed to speak of it. This very city, in which, as you all know, Christ Himself suffered for us, because our sins demanded it, has been reduced to the pollution of paganism and, I say it to our disgrace, withdrawn from the service of God. "*In 1187, the Saracens under the direction of Sultan Salah ad-Dîn took Jerusalem. In that year, the Sultan desired to be present at the celebration, even though he was not a Christian. Gautier Vinisauf tells us what happened: "On his arrival, the celestial fire descended suddenly, and the assistants were deeply moved.

The Christians demonstrated their joy by chanting the greatness of God, the Saracens on the contrary said that the fire which they had seen to come down was produced by fraudulent means. Salah ad-Dîn, wishing to expose the imposture, caused the lamp, which the fire from heaven had lighted, to be extinguished, but the lamp relit immediately.

He caused it to be extinguished a second time and a third time, but it relit as of itself. Thereupon, the Sultan confounded cried out in prophetic transport: ‘Yes, soon shall I die, or I shall lose Jerusalem.’ This prophecy was accomplished, for Salah ad-Dîn died the following Lent*."
