Actually I read that Joseph Arimathea, the rich man who owned the tomb had it, where Jesus was put. You may want to check that out further. 🙂

This is a very good question. There are many theories as to where the Holy Grail is now. I watched a few documentaries about this and some were very interesting. Some conclude that the Knights Templar brought it back from the Holy Land and only a select few know about it today, others feel the Vatican knows (which is possible)…some even say it made its way to America before Columbus sailed across the Atlantic! (not sure about the last one but the documentary I watched makes you really think).

I’ve never been sure of this: Is there any reason, early writings, or credible oral tradition that the Cup from the Last Supper was even preserved by the apostles – especially as they were a sad, lost, frightened lot until after Jesus appeared to them post-Resurrection?

I gave it to my pastor. I bought it when we saw Spamalot in Las Vegas. Really!

There were quite a few people with Holy Grails, the theater was selling them with some sort of frozen drink in them. 😃

It was plastic, but gold-tone, and encrusted with plastic jewels. Very nice size and shape. We wrapped it up and told our pastor that we did well in Vegas and we bought him a chalice. He was dumfounded, and as he started to unwrap it, we told him it wasn’t just any chalice, it was the Holy Grail. By then the light weight had wised him up a little and that clinched the joke. I’m sure he got plenty of mileage out of it with his priest pals. :extrahappy:

I read her somewhere from someone familiar with Jewish traditions is that families usually keep a grail/cup within the family for use during Passover suppers. So its likely they kept the one Jesus used which is probably something passed on from St. Joseph.

I’ve read a lot about this.

I think it is just a legend made up by medieval story tellers. That’s all it is. It has grown up to the proportions of a myth.

Over the ages, the legend of the Holy Grail has pretty clearly been influenced by spiritual and religious ideas from the Celts, Jewish mysticism, Greco-Roman mystery religions, and so forth.

Of course, there is quite a bit of Catholic theology in the legend of the Holy Grail too.

But, all in all, it a mixture of all kinds of ideas, belief systems, and so on.

This is why non-Christians as diverse as Richard Wagner (opera composer), Steven Speilberg (move director), and Dan Brown (novelist) have all made major works based on the Holy Grail legend.

But it really has nothing to do with the Holy Catholic Faith.

I suppose it a matter of opinion as to whether it is harmful to watch movies or read books about the Holy Grail as a form of entertainment. But that’s all it is. Entertainment.

If you want to see a real miracle associated with a cup or vessel, just go to Mass at any Catholic Church.

By Catholic standards, the Holy Grail would be a second class relic. Which separates it from any other cup/chalice/vessel used at any Liturgy throughout the 2000-year history of the Church.

That’s speculation based on nothing in scripture.

If you want to see a holy “grail” just go to Church.

You’re being unreasonable. The grail was owned by the man who allowed Jesus and his disciples to use his room for the passover. It is logical that he kept it himself, the man and in all truth it probably got wore out or destroyed over time.

The disciples weren’t about collecting artifacts; so in all truth the grail was likely to stay with its owner, where he used it to drink with and live with until it fulfilled its purpose and was tossed away like a piece of trash. Mine is the logical and truthful explanation. Your’s are all based on fantasies and speculation.

I’m not sure. It makes about as much sense as the claim that the True Cross was found again 300 years after the fact.

The disciples did not take the grail with them. They left it with the owner.

Sorry, but your explanation is also speculation unless you have some sort of corroborating historical evidence. Simply because it seems logical and makes sense to you doesn’t mean you can simply declare your opinion to be the way it actually happened.

The grail belonged to the man that owned the house not anyone else.
