Hello brothers and sisters in Christ. I would like to ask about the Holy Rosary. if any of you have watched EWTN and have seen Mother Angelica and the Sisters pray the Rosary, is it the right way to do it? I pray with them and just want to make sure I’m doing it right. If its mostly right, what parts are wrong? Thanks for all your help. God bless you all. 🙂

It is a quite good rosary example as it includes all the prayers usually associated with the Rosary and all the Mysteries prayed. Very good visuals to go with the Mysteries plus it helps to learn to go ten times and with praying along it is much easier to keep count and let your mind concentrate more on the Life of our Lord in each Mystery.

So, its right all the way, and nothing is missing? Good. I like this one.

The only two places where I divert from saying the Rosary EXACTLY as Mother Angelica and the Nuns of OLAM say it is a small part of the Apostles Creed and that I use “among all women” instead of “amongst all women” in the Hail Mary.

The exact wording of the Apostle’s Creed has gone over a slight change over the years to the latest wording so depending on when the prayer was learned by someone may not yet use it yet when combined with when precisely the Rosary was recorded. I do believe that in the case of the ones you and I use from EWTN, that they were indeed recorded earlier. Just so you know where the two or three word differences occur:

Mother’s Version Of Relevant Lines:
and sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from whence he shall come to judge the living and the dead.

Very small difference which does not change the meaning at all from this preferred now:
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

So yeah.👍

So, basically a couple small minute changes and tears it. Okay. Thanks for clearing that up.

The right way to do it is the way that raises your heart and mind to God. It isn’t a magical incantation. Focus on your inner dispensation, not the outward mechanics/performance, whatever way bests gets you to focus your mind on God and being close to Him.

2562 Where does prayer come from? Whether prayer is expressed in words or gestures, it is the whole man who prays. But in naming the source of prayer, Scripture speaks sometimes of the soul or the spirit, but most often of the heart (more than a thousand times). According to Scripture, it is the heart that prays. If our heart is far from God, the words of prayer are in vain.

2111 Superstition is the deviation of religious feeling and of the practices this feeling imposes. It can even affect the worship we offer the true God, e.g., when one attributes an importance in some way magical to certain practices otherwise lawful or necessary. To attribute the efficacy of prayers or of sacramental signs to their mere external performance, apart from the interior dispositions that they demand, is to fall into superstition.41

So, don’t worry about the way Mother Angelica and the nuns are praying, but how I feel in my heart? Okay. I just wanted to get it right. I don’t want to pray the Rosary wrong. I want to do it right. Tiara not wrong, I wouldn’t think.

It’s kind of like St. Paul when he talks about doing the right things but without love.

It’s great to want to make your prayers appealing to God, to have the correct reverence for Him, to want to do what is pleasing to Him. Just don’t get so bogged down in the details of the execution of a prayer that you lose sight of it’s purpose. The Rosary is very powerful in drawing us closer to God by contemplating the mysteries. For example, I’ve always been struck by the manner in which St. Elizabeth and John the Baptist while in Elizabeth’s womb recognize that their savior has already entered into the world. They recognize that his earthly life has begun—prior to birth. It is something I contemplate in considering abortion in the world today and when life begins. The mystery shows us Christ, like all of us, is alive and recognized while still in his mothers’ womb.

Don’t get so lost in the counting of prayers or repetitions or mechanics that you miss the opportunity for insight and understanding that may come, that will again, help raise your heart to Our Lord.

There’s really no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to pray the Rosary. Many people do it slightly differently: some will say ‘Holy Spirit’ while others stick with ‘Holy Ghost’. Some say the Fatima Prayer, others don’t. (It’s not obligatory that you say them; many people just do it because, well, Our Lady asked us to.) Some people end at Hail Holy Queen, others go on to recite the Litany of Loreto or some other prayer such as ‘O God, whose only begotten Son’ or ‘Pour forth, we beseech thee, O Lord’. In fact, Dominicans traditionally have a slightly different way of reciting the Rosary.

My advice: don’t get too hung up on the specifics, because as the other poster said it can and does distract you from the actual purpose of the prayer. God is not going to judge you because you ended the rosary at Hail Holy Queen. 😉

So, basically pray it the way I’ve learned, and feel itIn my heart. I will do that.
