The Holy Spirit can't be God in mormonism

In mormonism you must have a body to become a god. You have to go through all the masonic temple ceremonies, pay your 10%, not drink coffee etc. No body means no godhood.

BUT mormonism teaches that the Holy Spirit has never had a body and doesn’t have one. He is pure spirit. Therefore he cannot be a god according to mormonisms own doctrine. Yet they call him one anyway. Smith obviously didn’t think this one through.

Just to clarify a few points of Mormon belief. I’ve asked some of these questions to my Mormon friends and it is their belief that one of the things that made Jesus unique is he reached godhood prior to his incarnation…so did the Holy Spirit…it is unknown whether the Holy Spirit will take a body or not…but since “it” has already reached godhood, “it’s” godhood cannot be taken away…the Holy Spirit has progressed already.

According to what I’ve been told of Mormonism, we as humans have to go through mortality and become “Mormons” to reach exhaltation…Jesus and the Holy Spirit had reached godhood in the pre-existence…the HS hasn’t yet taken a body…but it is unknown whethere it will or not.

Sounds like a theology of the gaps. They didn’t think ahead when inventing their beliefs.

I don’t understand how Mormon beliefs can be reconciled with Natural Theology.

The only reason the Holy Ghost of Mormonism is pure spirit is because he hasn’t gotten his earthly body yet. The Mormons teach that either prior to- or during the millennium, he will be incarnated as was Jesus.

In the year prior to his death, Joseph Smith had begun to confide to his closest associates (including some of his plural wives as recorded in their personal journals) that he himself was the incarnation of the Holy Ghost and therefore a living god. This belief spread and became so widely held among Mormons that after Joseph was killed the LDS Church had to release an official statement disavowing it.

Since then, several Mormons have taken Joseph’s cue and claimed that they were the incarnation of the Holy Ghost. The most recent that I know of was Bruce Longo. He claimed he had ‘come to earth to gain a body’ and to prepare the church for the millennium. He gained a number of LDS disciples and took a lot of their money and then committed suicide by gassing himself in a car on Parleys Summit in Utah. Then his wife threw their children off the 10th floor balcony of a hotel in Salt Lake City.
