With Rogue one almost in theaters, I must ask it

Why?
Why are there people around whose life is dedicated to “exposing” Star Wars as the tool of Satan?
Why?
What has done Star Wars to convince people that is evil?
Is it because Kylo Ren’s saber may look like an inverted cross? Because the concept of the Force is linked to “black magick”?
Because God (while being mentioned) never shows up, and thus it MUST be a godless, heathen universe?

No really, tell me.
I just don’t get it.
(Also…sorry if I start ranting…it’s just that it bothers me when people act like this…it bothers me as much as people claiming that science directly contradicts religion…)

This really annoys me. My parents were ensnared by these beliefs by reading books by seemingly holy people that were, in short, utter tripe (at least in part). Sure, I can see that the new age is not compatible with Christianity, but just cos George Lucas came up with a novel idea for how the universe works for a FANTASY movie doesn’t make his stories satanic. Nor is all rock music satanic either.

To answer your question it’s because people are incapable of separating really believing in a force that powers[BIBLEDRB][/BIBLEDRB] the universe (which is not a satanic belief, but rather pagan) and a fantasy story.

Some people need a prescription for a lifetime’s supply of chill pills.

I once worked with a non-denominational guy who was all about The Lord of the Rings. One day when I remarked about something in the movie, he said “I don’t watch that anymore.” Confused due to his previous fanaticism with it, I asked “why?” and he said, “because it has sorcery in it and sorcery is of the devil.” I could only shake my head in disbelief.

There’s just no reasoning with ignorance.

People see what the want to see , if it’s Satan they see in a silly movie ,
They have an issue , not the Movie

Yup. Best to Just shake it off.

Why would it bother somebody so much?
Good question. I sincerely don’t know the answer myself. I think it’s mainly because I feel insulted, both as a Star Wars nerd and as a Christian. The first one, because what’s my favourite work of fiction is being accused of being an instrument of ultimate evil - an accusation I do not take kindly to.
Second one , because it slanders the very spirit of Christianity, and exposes its worst side: a cult made of fanatical, bible-thumping arrogant zealots who can’t resist the urge to (mis)quote the Bible to give themselves an aura of importance, who prefer mad prophecies and terrible interpretations of the Bible to common sense, who condemn as evil everything that has a different opinion, who serve a hateful, vain and whimsical god. And worst thing is - that’s the image they give to all of Christianity - that’s what people think we are like.

On a personal note, I am a quite “fragile” person in terms of will, and one of the main reasons I question my faith is because of this kind of people, who both plant the terrrible seeds of doubt in my mind (because, even though I know this accusations are b-s, still that little annoying voice asks “What if they’re right”?) about what I like most and cast a negative image of our religion, to the point I don’t even know if Christianity and my own views coincide anymore.

Phew…I had to get all of this out. Sorry 😫

Yeah… you kinda sound like the one with the problem here. If you are dwelling on such a silly thing.

You need to not be upset by it and move on.

Exactly, that’s what I’m trying to do. Still, it ain’t easy.

I know man, I know.
Maybe I just needed to vent steam a little.
I would encourage you to vent steam over more meaningful things. If this is what you are upset about then you have invested too much into the subject. You might want to consider that. This is a common thing for many media things. Harry Potter, Star Wars etc. and while the criticism of satanism is far fetched and not good. It’s also not good to be so attached to something so much that it bothers you to the point of venting.

I’ll be seeing rogue one on Saturday. May the force be with you!

It may be worth noting that Lucas and others have said that Star Wars is not s Christian allegory. So while we shouldn’t demonize it, let’s not canonize it either…

As yoda says " fear leads to anger, anger to hate. And hate leads to suffering"

Sounds like you are at anger…😉

Star Wars is not satanic, it’s not Christian, if I had to categorize it spiritually it would lean heavy toward the eastern religions.

I shall follow your advice, then.
I have indeed invested much in Star Wars, but what really hurt me was seeing people using the pretense of Christianity to attack Star Wars - I was probably so used at having them “coexist” pecefully that seeing one “try and destroy” another was a shock.
Also, don’t worry, I DO get rightfully angry for more important things… 👍
Also, cool! I am seeing it on Saturday too!
