Does anyone keep up with the Hubble Telescope images besides me? Some people meditate on icons; to me the Hubble images are also icons, windows on Heaven. How can anyone possibly contemplate these images and not see reflected in them the incredible power, splendor and beauty of God?

I have a degree in astronomy, and what you say is the reason astronomy first interested me. Take a look at the Hubble Heritage Gallery, a collection of Hubble’s most beautiful images.

You might be interested in the Vatican Observatory, too; several Jesuit astronomers run it in Rome and Tucson, Arizona.
 
It is amazing to look at those pictures and it does make one think about the Creator.

What a privilege to see it up close and personal.

I know about the gallery; I’ve downloaded all my favorites and use them as my screen savers so I can have aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah moments whenever I want. I get the new images on my email, too.

How can anyone think of these as simple scientific
studies?

Since I’ve been a child the stars have always attracted me. When I was in college I took several electives on the subjects of Astronomy, Astrophysics and Cosmology. I’ve always wanted to know how things work and my thirst to know how the Universe works has perhaps led me to ponder on my finitude.

So, no, you’re not alone. I guess that it’s gotta do with geeky spirituality. 😃

Science was originally developed to study the handiwork of God. 👍
