  1. If you don’t want spoilers, you don’t have to read the thread.
  2. this thread doesn’t give away much. wikipedia had plot summaries of all three books long before the movie came out.
  3. the kids all knew the plots before they read the books. They told each other.
It’s not about the surprises you get while reading. It’s the feelings.
Can the kids be surprised by anything after all they’ve seen in movies already?
Fortunately I’ve already read all of the books and with some things I like to find out more before I read or watch because my curiosity is getting the better of my patience so I usually don’t mind mild spoilers.

If I were to start a thread that I was going to put spoilers in, I would put it in the title because I feel it’s thoughtful - when people are interested in something they might want to see what other people have to say about it without finding out too much. That wouldn’t apply to this thread, of course, because I think the poster hasn’t seen the movie. It’s just something to consider.

Are you implying it’s unreasonable for someone to want to hear other people’s opinions without finding out some turns in the story, or did you just respond defensively because you felt I was attacking people?

If it’s the latter the tsk smiley was playful on my part.

Neither.

I was just pointing out that somebody who doesn’t want to know anything about the story before seeing the movie needs to avoid a lot of things on the internet,

but the kids don’t seem to care about spoilers. They go to the theaters for an experience, to be with the gang etc.

Good! Agree to disagree then. 👍

Of course,

one reason to talk about a story like Hunger Games in a thread like this,
even at the risk of spoiling it for people,

is that even people who read all three books may have missed some points if they didn’t pay attention.

For example, the Haymitch thing.
In the first book, he appears to be doing no more than helping his tributes, which was the job of every survivor/mentor from every district.
But it you’ve read carefully, by the end of the third book you should suspect that he has been waiting for the “right” tribute for years to act as a symbol for the rebels. As it turned out, he hit the lottery. He got two tributes, Katniss and Peeta. This was the big opportunity, and as we learn in the later books, Haymitch doesn’t act alone. He has a network of fellow rebels thoughout Penam, one even in the Capitol itself. It must have taken many years to develop this network. You don’t put an ad in the newspaper.
