I have been to india, africa, rome and i am surprised and deeply moved about the amount of ignorence shown by faiths to each other.
When in Rome i asked a ‘devout’ Catholic wether or not he knew the holy scriptures of Islam…No he didn’t
When in India i asked a Muslim if he knew the Creation story of Genesis…He did not.
When in africa i asked a Buddhist if he knew wether or not he could tell me the five pillars of Islam… He could not.

These are the little things that make us ignorant and not understanding of people’s religions…

well I heard if your going to talk to someone about their religion its important to do some research first.

… I don’t mean to sound offensive, but…
did you ask these things in their native tongues? By asking in English would, according to your theory, we would be ignorant and not understanding of people’s cultures where you are visiting.

I do understand your point - we all must make strides to go beyond our own theories and explore what ‘makes other religions tick’. I just think it would be a stretch to call anyone who did not know anything about another religion ignorant.

I am proud that i can speak 11 languages…
and yes i did speak in native tounge

It is wonderful that you can speak so many languages. I currently reside in a country other than the US and attempt to speak in the native language. However, I am one of those that just don’t have the ear for the language 😦 . I try though- usually resulting in them speaking English to me!

Perhaps you are being called to teach about diversity to other members of your parish. Have monthly Culture nights - learn foreign languages, eat their foods, learn about their mainstream religion. I would come! 👍

I am also proud that I can declare that this person is lying, he has joined these forums as a joke, unfortunately I know him, he can speek only English, and German - badly. Further more, if anyone cares to look at his profile, you shall see his religion is “Mikeyanity” a complete take on Christianity

Libero is quite right. I also am unfortunate to know this person, and his ear for language is as bad as most i should think. Mikeyanity is the most farcical, and heretical religion i have ever come across - and this is not an ignorance towards another religion, because it doesnt deserve the status. I mean, the holy book is the Bibble! What copying is that! Though i am personally flattered that he chooses the best religion to base his on! 😃
