I’m sorry if this is in the wrong place 😊

I have a few questions on the Immaculate Conception. I trust the Church on this matter, even though I don’t understand it, but I would like it if someone could help me.

Now we know that Mary was concieved without original sin, and that she did not sin during her life. Was this her choice in the end (not to sin), though she was aided by God’s grace or did God prevent Mary from sinning? Did this stop her free will in any way?

Also, if God can create us prefect and with free will, why doesn’t he? Is b/c he simply doesn’t want to? (this was my guess.)

Thx 😛

Hi.

This Catholic Encyclopedia entry should help a great deal.

In short, God made Mary a sinless vessel, a perfect new Ark for a new Covenant where the Word of God would rest again, as with the old Covenant.

Mary was fully human. But without original sin (and with a perfect son and Lord, whose path she could follow) Mary had free will but never had any inclination to sin. It just wasn’t in her nature.

Of course, Eve was also created without sin, and yet succumbed to the deceit of Satan. So Mary could have sin, and Satan may have tempted her but she was not deceived.

The best answer I can give you stems from some of the others’ answers. Adam and Eve were essentially created without stain and full capacity to obey God. However, God necessarily has to give us the option to reject Him, otherwise, we cannot exercise true love. Love unchosen is not love.
