The Importance of All Saints' Day

Why is visiting our deceased relatives once a year important to the Catholic faith? Can there be room for visiting the tombs of prominent people, especially those who died before I even have a chance to meet them in person?

Also, is it superstition, at least in the Philippines, that if someone does not visit his relatives on All Saints’ and All Souls’ days, would he be haunted by their ghosts, at least in his own house, until he visits their graves?

I never visit graves, on 11/1 or at any other time.

And yes, I’d say that a belief in “haunting” probably qualifies as superstition. Church teaching includes purgatory but not haunting.
