Except that none of this is actually taught in schools and is entirely the product of your imagination.
A Florida university professor recently had his students write the name JESUS on a blank sheet of paper. Then he instructed his students to put it on the floor and stomp on it. This “lesson” was to teach them tolerance at a college level.

ONE person. You can find ONE instance of just about anything you disagree with.

Harvard University President Larry Summers was forced to resign after he observed that there may be a difference in the male and female brain.

You are expected to know…by college…that there are NO DIFFERENCES in the natural world. To see differences is to be INTOLERANT.

You see…that is the problem with citations…People just mock them and believe what they want to anyway. Why bother…If what I write strikes you as true…then God bless you and me both…if not then…God Bless you and please expose the errror of my logic.

I heard this story. Except the first time I heard of someone doing this exercise it was a Sunday School teacher - drawing attention to the importance we place on symbolism and cautioning the students against placing symbols above what they represent. NOT to teach “tolerance”. Yet another case of Catholics lying.

I can’t follow this first point…it seems illogical. The Florida incident has something to do with a Sunday school teacher…and this all shakes out that Catholics lie???

Brother, I never post links and rarely give citations because of the reasons I gave above to my sister in the Lord.

I also think it’s pretty ironic that we’re now being told by people like Pugsly that the problem with Nazi Germany was that there was too much tolerance and respect for ethnic and cultural diversity.

Yes, you lied because you said that the lesson was about tolerance. It was about the importance placed on symbolism. If you had provided a respectable source, then that would have been made obvious. As it is, you sound like one of those guys on the street corners ranting about the end times.

I am not against kids being exposed to the horrors of the Holocaust. I am against manipulating the primal fears of children (Survival) to indoctrinate them with the idea that all strongly held convictions are obviously bad. Or to teach TOLERATION of every ideology as equally worthy of respect. Both indoctrination techniques achieve the same end: a child that sees Christianity on an equal footing with Islam…etc.

When every ideology is worthy of toleration then no idea is worthy of my time. Hence…after WWII Eropeans learned the wrong lesson. They didn’t learn that fighting evil was good…but that fighting itself was wrong.

The irony of all this is that Radical liberalism actually sets the stage for massive human cruelty.
But you get my point (which seems to have flown over Contra Mundum’s head :)) that you too are playing the same game if you try to dictate what kids should and shouldn’t be taught to be tolerant of.

When you say “a child that sees Christianity on an equal footing with Islam”, are you talking about a Christian child or a Muslim child? According to the CIA factbook there are 1.5 billion Muslims in the world, 1 in 4 people on the planet. Unless Christian and Muslim kids are taught to respect each others’ religion they will start another round of religious wars, this time with nuclear weapons on both sides.

So do you think teaching kids a bit of tolerance and respect for each other is too high a price to pay for keeping them alive?

Ah but you run up against a conundrum here. Each religion teaches that they are the only way to God.

As a Christian I will respect the person but I may disagree with their religion. I do not know if Muslims are taught the same.

I’m not mocking anything. I’m pointing out that this was ONE person. If ONE Catholic school teacher does something wrong, should I therefore conclude, and post publicly, that whatever they did wrong is a widespread issue? I think not.

Here we are on a philosophy thread and I cannot show you how a massive philosophical movement is playing out right before your eyes. If you read the postings above…I list 4 ethics that can be extracted from a god-free view of reality…these are SURVIVAL ethics, VICTIM ethics, NATUTRE ethics and UTILITY ethics ( that is primal, dominating selfish ethics).

Our Western world is now interpreted through the secular lense of these ethics…where “evil” is those manipulators of the Utility ethic…vs…the empathetic (Survival, Nature and Victim ethics)…all other belief systems are being rendered socially meaningless.
Catholicism has been thoroughly marginalized in the West.
Try to have more faith in the Lord. He is not powerless.

Yes, but we can find common ground and we can have the humility to accept that others have the same rights as us. After all Christ does call on us to follow the Golden Rule and to be really tolerant:

But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you. - Luke 6

You make a good point…about general tolerance of others…which (along with personal hygiene and eating habits and sexual activity)…is not the school systems business.

Which is exactly what I have done here…when I was called a liar…and smeared as a Nazi sympathizer.

Oh, not at all dear friend. I understand what you are saying in this thread and I’m not completely disagreeing with you. However, the way you ‘argue’ has much room for improvement. The number of logical fallacies in your comments are astonishing. Let me give you an example: the OP criticised the way that tolerance is taught in secular circles and mentions tolerance museums. You respond by naming the tolerance museum in Israel and call him a Holocaust denier. Nonsensical and in poor taste, don’t you think? In case you’d like a mini online tutorial in logic and the art of constructing an argument I’d be more than happy to help you out. 😉

Interesting discussion btw.

I’m always intrigued when people start complaining about equality, respect and responsibility.

Of course, your experience of schools seems different than mine was. I have a God-son finishing up elementary school now and it doesn’t seem like you say it is. What are these secular doctrines of “Nature, Victim and Survival ethics”?

And they’ve been teaching about ‘sharing’ in kindergarten for decades.
I have to wonder the same thing honestly. I’m just finishing up my last year of high school at a public school. And I really don’t see any of the “indoctrination” people here always seem to be worrying about. Seems to me like paranoia:shrug:

But do all religions have the same philosphical and historical grounds to back up their claims? I think not.

Also I am not sure if really ALL religions/faiths claim to be ‘exclusive paths’.

Somer faiths are very syncretic…
