The Infertility Pill?

My girlfriend is sterile, but she has recently been taking some kind of infertility pill - as prescribed by her doctor - which is suppose to help her get pregnant. It’s been causing her headaches and sleepiness.

Is taking an infertility pill moral?

An infertility pill? Do you mean a fertility drug, such as clomid?

In general, medications which cause the body to behave in the way it is supposed to work (or closer to the way it should work) are moral. But the circumstances in which the drug is used could possibly affect the morality.
 
most infertility pills are designed to regulate the woman’s cycle, making her time of ovulation easier to predict. They are not immoral because they do not interfere with the marital act, nor do they take the marital act out of the baby making process.

If you two are trying to have a child, shouldn’t she be your WIFE? :ehh:
 
Ok, first off if your girlfriend is sterile, a fertility pill isn’t gonna help her have a baby. If she has infertility, she may have difficulty conceiving, but that doesn’t mean she is sterile.

Secondly, pills that improve a woman’s fertility are called fertility meds. The Church is ok with a woman taking fertility medication to improve a woman’s chances of conceiving. The Church does warn about the implications of some of the pills, though, such as injectibles which can lead to higher order multiples. Many drs. will push for “selective reduction” in the case of higher order multiples and as a Catholic, that is never an option. So if your girlfriend were to be on meds that have a high risk of this, she should take every precaution to be monitored closely so she can avoid if her body reacts to the meds by producing too many eggs.

And, finally, your gf shouldn’t be taking any meds to try to conceive until the two of you are married. The exception to this a medication like Femara or Metformin which is used to help regulate PCOS symptoms in women suffering with this disorder.
