I recently read The Interior Castle. It got me thinking, which castle am I in? I think somewhere between 4 and 5. Has anyone here experienced the religious ecstasy she talks about in the higher mansions? I hope someday I can experience being in the higher parts of the castle. Not sure how to get there. I pray my rosary almost every day and try often to partake of the sacraments. I guess its up to God if I get there or not.
 
I think I’m in the courtyard with the lizards. I’m trying to make my way into the first one and being careful not to let the reptiles in with me.

That is how St. Theresa described it, right?

Mother Angelica said that to one lady who asked her where she thought she might be in the mansions. The lady did not like that smart alec answer at all.
 
I might have made it into the third mansion from time to time. I’m not certain. I’m just going to keep plugging away and do what I need to do to grow in the spiritual life.

We have to be careful not to pay too much attention to where we are, I think, but just to deepen our prayer life as best we can, more each day. And never lose sight of the basics.
 
Half way through reading it at present. It is quite humbling to think about where you could be in terms of spiritual advancement and where you are at present and you thought you were doing well too (for me anyways).
 
I have a resource that keeps me on track of my progress and sometimes backslide, in the mansions.

Interior Castle and St. Teresa has an enormous postive effect for me and my daily walk.💕

Main thing of prayer is to just “show up” and remember to let God do it… In certain places of our lives in general and prayer lives specifically.
 
She doesn’t mention a dungeon. does she?

I got stuck in the kitchen where the fridge is. Also the smell of food cooking there was too much to resist.

Some of the answers in this thread are making me laugh!

I was thinking of the name “castle,” so it made me think of “moat,” and “drawbridge,” and knowing me, I’d probably get stuck trying to cross the moat, trying to even get inside of the castle! 😁 😉

Edited to add, I need to take a serious look at these writings. I have this book of St. Teresa’s.
