Just wanted to share this interesting and entertaining commentary.

The author is not Catholic, but he is writing about belief in God as revealed through Jesus Christ, and about how he sees such belief as being consistent with intelligence and education.

Towards the end of the article, he makes reference to the Spanish Inquisition. It seems to me he puts it in pretty good perspective, but I am not sure how reliable the link he provides for more information is.

It does bring a different perspective to the discussion.

Some time ago I was able to put aside the idea that somehow a person must either choose to live by “faith” or they must choose to live by “reason” as though the two were incompatible. I have come to realize that “reason” is simply another thing that a person might put their faith in.

Reason can only proceed from the assumption of basic facts and it is the facts that are assumed to be true that forms the foundation of a person’s faith. The faith comes first because no reasoning can happen without a beginning assumption of what is true.

Anyway, a little too heavy for this time of night

I guess the tree branch of history is the place to go when the spirit needs a rest. 🙂
