Hello everyone,

As Christians, are we morally obligated to not patronize any business, company, organization, ect. that directly or indirectly supports abortion, same sex marriage, PP, ect? I cannot seem to find a solid answer on this. I mean I feel like I shouldnt be buying things from companies that support said issues but on the other hand, I somewhat feel like I should judge a business by its products and treatment. I also feel like every company supports a morally objectional cause in one way or another? I mean, im using a microsoft OS on this computer, or what if my friend drives a ford? Where do we draw the line? This troubles me greatly. If you guys could give me a solid answer with some support, Id be very grateful. Thanks =)

Tough one. But I would concentrate on things you can do that will make a real difference–like volunteering at Catholic Charities. The economy is so interdependent that it is not strictly possible to boycott anti-Christian businesses. There may be some obvious targets, like Catholic items from China or Planned Parenthood, but most companies are so immoral that you would have to live in a cave to to avoid the taint of immorality. You can make no mistake by volunteering. I volunteer & it feels great!

Beware…many Catholic Charities groups have given money to fund abortion, gay marriage, illegal immigrant rights, and anti-catholic political campaigns, including giving to Obama’s campaign.

Which groups have they supported? Be specific. By the way, there is no such thing as an “illegal immigrant” in the eyes of the church. There is no such thing as illegal people in general. Why is Obama anti-Catholic?

I’m not going to write a paper on it, but it’s been in the news, mostly the non liberal news.

No, there is no such thing as illegal people, but there are such things as laws…and Jesus says give unto Caesar that which is unto Caesar. 🙂

Okay, okay, I get it. But you must disagree with most Bishops, right?

No, what makes you think that? I would say that I agree with most bishops.

I don’t place boycotts on any companies. But I do think it is important to think about where our money goes. Every time we spend any amount of money, we can be doing good or doing harm. I think it’s almost impossible to never spend any money with any place that might do some harm with it. But by constantly thinking about how we spend our money, where it goes and what it is used for, we may make little decisions that means more of our money goes towards good, rather than evil.
