I have been struggling with this for a while. When Jesus said to forgive those who have tresspassed against us, does that mean to move on as if nothing happened? well, let me explain my issue.
A month ago, my very best friend was ignoring me and going behind my back about a difficult decision which I feel I handled correctly. (I was in charge of a segment of a vacation bible school, and her younger sister was causing a lot of trouble and making a mess and distracting the rest of the kids, and so of course I told her what she did was causing everybody a lot of grief and politely asked her to stop.) When i asked my friend why she was avoiding me(she promised to help me out at the VBS and suddenly stopped with no explanation), she said that I was mean and rude and that she didn’t want anything to do with me. I was shocked, and I cried a lot about it, and prayed too. I came to the conclusion that it was for the better, that I am better off knowing what she thinks and moving on.
But yesterday my friend called and I wasn’t there, so she talked to my sister. Apparently she asked if I was still mad at her, and my sister said, I think so, and my friend said something like, “oh”, and that was all. I am not sure how to handle this. In my mind I forgive her, and like I said I have tried to move on, but I am still very hurt and upset.
Do I need to tell her to her face that I forgive her? That might only cause more grief, since she thinks I am the one who did a bad thing. But if I do forgive her and we become friends again, I don’t think it’s healthy to surround myself with people who don’t like me.
If somebody has any advice on how to deal with this, it would be very much appreciated!
