Baigent is in fact one of the authors of Holy Blood, Holy Grail which Dan Brown used for his novel. Here’s a good summary of what’s wrong with it. The Gnostics were anti-sex. Then how could Jesus be truly Gnostic and have children?
There were some Gnostic sects that did accept sexual acts and procreation. Jesus was
supposedly a member of this sect. Also, there is a type of this Gnosis sect that exists on
Long Island, N.Y. this day.

Another item that Baigent claims is that Jesus was a member of the Zadokite Zealots and that He betrayed them when He said "Give to Caesar the things that belong to Caesar and
to God the things that belong to God. Because of this, the Zealots turned Him over to Pilate and Pilate had Him crucified for sedition which is treason against the emperor!

Truthfully, I’ve never laughed so hard at such a ridiculous statement! :extrahappy:

The other theological problem other than abandoning children would be, is that marriage as described by the bible would be obtuse. Jesus is described as being married to his church.
Unless it was okay, for him to marry in many different ways I just see it as more confusion.
How about the succession problem also? Didn’t Islam have this problem? And, if they wanted to kill Jesus, why would his children not be on the list as well? His wife?

The whole thing sounds weird.

His so called children would have been venerated and icons of them everywhere, as his so called wife would have been.

They would be in a better spot than peter after death. People will do that. They will love family. Jesus kept telling everyone he opened the family doors up. no need for real bloodlines.

Actually, since the Gospels point out in several places predictions of Jesus going to the cross therefore he must have known that was going to happen. Why would he want to drag a wife and kids through that? Also what wife is going to want to travel all over Palestine with kids? And is she going to be happy about the 12 apostles being in first place while she and the kids get no mention?
Also in the Dan Brown bit about Da Vinci’s Last Supper that John the Beloved is supposedly Mary Magdalene his wife, where is John then? Women at a Passover Seder do not sit at table with the men and certainly not saddling their husband who happens to be the Rabbi.😦

According to Baigent, Jesus married Mary Magdalene after he “recovered” from the crucifixion. He never really died on the cross but was “knocked out” when the soldier put the sponge to his lips ( it had the equivalent of knockout drops)!

As for the Last Supper, you are correct. Jesus and the apostles were very Orthodox.
Women would definitely be Barred from the table.

I don’t know exactly where to post this thread so I thought this forum would be a good place. Also, I don’t know if this subject has been discussed before. If so, then I’m beating a dead horse with a wet noodle. If not then I would like to advance my comments on the subject,

I have just finished reading “The Jesus Papers” by Michael Baigent ( Harper-Collier ). It is a very interesting story the way it is presented and presents some real good arguments
that Jesus did not die on the cross, and that He was alive in 45 AD. He also presents arguments and “evidence” that Jesus’ hidden years were spent in Egypt studying the ways of the mystics, etc. and that jesus married Mary Magdalene.

The only thing that stops me from accepting all of this is that not only is it assumption and conjecture ( evident in the use of some of his phrases ), but he seems to be advancing Gnosticism. As we know, Gnosis ( knowledge ) is secret and only for the elect.
To me, this raises a RED flag. Besides, there are also many unanswered questions, such as “if the Apostle John wrote the Gospel of John, then why didn’t he
reveal that Jesus didn’t die on the cross?”. This and many other questions seem to be ignored.

Out of curiosity, I would like to know individual comments on this subject. Thank you.

There is enough Catholic literature out there- that fully embraces the Church’s teachings- to last a lifetime. Why waste your time with filth like this? We have the creeds, the councils, the scriptures, and enough other Catholic literature out there that is in line with what the creeds, councils, and scriptures say to last several lifetimes- and Jesus has promised that the gates of hell will not prevail against the Church. Why put doubt into our minds- and forsake the chance to read good, solid Catholic literature by reading things that are heretical? (It is a heresy to say that Jesus did not truly die on the cross)

His main argument is that Jesus did not die on the cross, that He was alive and well in
45ad, and that He loved and married Mary Magdalen, had children and moved to France.
He goes in a round about way to present his argument and so-called “proofs” ( which
raises more questions ). The basis of his “proof” is the so called “Jesus Papers” ( which
he says are witten in Aramaic and had translated ), that he actually saw the papers but now they are no longer available for viewing ( very convenient ). The “papers” were dated
by two archaeologists, who are now dead. He wrote the book to warn the people of the
great wrong and cover-up by the Vatican. That the Vatican would lose its power over the people if the “truth” ever came out. I think that the book is a great story of fiction. The
only problem is that Christians of weak faith may and can believe what’s written to the
detriment of losing their souls. In my opinion, men like this are only interested in the
almighty dollar and as to how much they can roil the waters to make that dollar.

Paraphrasing Archbihop Sheen, " a lie is still a lie, even if everyone believes it, and the truth is still the truth, even if no one believes it!"

 Its a little hard to argue against evidence contained in a non existent document destroyed in a conspiracy by the Vatican. I hope he has more than that to offer. 🙂

…then again, given the garbage contained in the Davinci Code, maybe not.

God bless,
Ut

I have a library of Catholic and Christian literature. I “waste” my time reading this garbage so as to know what is out there to entice those that are weak in the faith. This way I know how to answer and rebuke, or repudiate, those ridiculous claims by these authors. I have
also witnessed to Jehovahs Witnesses, for over 35 years, to try to show them the errors in The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society’s teachings. I pray that I have made some dents in their armor. I know that this is boasting, but I say this to try to show you the strength of my faith in my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
