Hi everyone, and happy new year!
I was just wondering if one of our Maronite or other Syriac brethren could comment on the use of the Jesus Prayer in the Maronite/Syriac tradition. Is it prayed at all? Is it a traditional part of Maronite spirituality that has been largely forgotten/ignored, or is it not traditionally part of Maronite spirituality in general?
I have come across references to the Jesus Prayer in some Maronite sources, but it’s mentioned in such passing that it’s hard to determine whether or not the Prayer is actually a part of Maronite tradition or if it is simply a “Byzantinization.”
I know I’m going to have to dig up my copies of the writings of St. Isaac the Syrian to see what he has to say, but for now those are all packed up in boxes as I’ve just moved within the last couple of weeks. So I’m hoping for some quick answers now.
