The Jim Gaffigan Show

Just tuned in again to a stream of “Super Great Daddy Day” and found various offensive things in it. Jim can’t even be bothered to go to Mass on Sunday and has an awkward conversation with his priest. A man says that Jim called the man’s girlfriend a variety of unrepeatable names. Ultra-liberal Janeane Garofalo in a cameo, shows Jim several pictures of genitalia (not on screen) drawn by school children.

Tasteless and unbecoming of a practicing Catholic, I stand by my original opinion of the show, and I won’t be watching any more, or patronizing advertisers.
 
I caught this show on Hulu, I thought it was pretty funny but I guess because I could identify with it. DH is not Catholic, and doesn’t always go go Mass with me (I got from the show that Jim was not Catholic but his wife and kids were, maybe I got that wrong idk). DH doesn’t want any more kids but I’d love 5, and I love tiny houses and would love to live in a 2 bedroom with 5 kids and be a SAHM…okay maybe not so close together but it totally reminded me of our situation.

It is a comedy aimed at adults and yes one of the main character is gay but that can be expected in TVs shows nowdays, especially considering what I understood that Jim is not catholic but his wife is, so he probably has no problems portraying a character as homosexual. I definitely found it entertaining and it also helped break the ice for some more serious conversations about religion with DH, so it was pretty enjoyable for us.

I’d personally never heard of him before the show, and I find him pretty funny.

Oh and also as someone with (only two right now) small children, I appreciate the humor between Jim and his friend without kids. The dynamic is very well understood, despite the fact that his buddy is a pretty inappropriate womanizer type. My friends are like that, but the with kids/without kids thing is still there.
 
My take on Jim’s character on the show is that he’s the stereotypical clueless dad. Part of that, for Jim the character, is that he’s just as clueless when it comes to his faith as he is when it comes to his children or his diet. His wife is there to be the good cop to his bad cop. I agree that some of the show is inappropriate but I think they do a much better job of injecting faith into the show than anything out there. Seriously, it’s a part of every episode and while it’s seldom heavy-handed, it’s clearly an important part of their lives. I’d rather watch this with my kids than just about anything else on right now.

Love Jim Gaffigan and the show is very entertaining. I DVR it and catch up when I can.

Also got tickets to see his stand-up show next month. I recommend taking a look on You Tube for his stuff. It’s hysterical!
 
I haven’t watched the show. I’ve only seen some of his stand-up on YouTube, and while I didn’t like him at first, he’s grown on me. From the little I’ve seen, it also comes across that he’s developed in his faith. Comedy is usually a very hostile field to things Catholic, and I think he took a page out of St. Paul and is attempting to be wise as a serpent. Unless you want him to preach to the choir, he’s probably wise to stick to his current style and perhaps get some grains of truth across to an audience who would otherwise tune him out. Again, I haven’t watched the show. Maybe I can YouTube it at some point.
