Dear Father Deacon,

Have the monks made the move to New Jersey already? Thank you.

In Christ,
Anthony
Vitaemo! We welcome you!

Father , bless - as a monastic you may also benefit from contact with the other Greek Catholic monastic foundations in North America, including Holy Transfiguration in California (UGCC); Holy Transfiguration Skete in Michigan(UGCC); and Holy Resurrection Monastery in New Jersey (Romanian). Monastics are dearly needed in this day and age. May God grant you many years as a Greek Catholic monk.
Fr. Deacon RLB (Ukrainian Greek Catholic)

n.b. Stop and see Fr. Hugo in Phoenix sometime at our Ukrainian Catholic parish - he is a very nice priest from Argentina and has a wonderful wife and family.

By entering one of the eastern rites, you are healing a wound in the Body of Christ and your Order greatly enriches our Church.

**This is precisely what Fr. Brendan and I felt. We believed this would provide the safest spiritual enviornment for us, and we’ve been right.

Along the same lines, we rejoiced greatly when the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia and the Moscow Patriarchate reconciled and returned to communion with each other.

And we were also happy when Mar Bawai and his faithful went to the Chaldean Catholic Church. Likewise, when we read that John Paul II and Patriarch Dinkha signed a declaration of common Christology.

Any time a schism is reconciled is caused for rejoicing.**

I couldn’t agree more.

It pleases me when western Protestants convert to Catholicism, but I am overjoyed when I hear of my Eastern bretheren returning to the Church headed by the Bishop of Rome. Even though I would be classed as a traditional Roman Catholic, I have a great admiration and respect for Eastern theology, liturgy, history, custom and practice. Eastern Christians and Latin Catholics agree far more than they disagree, and it is a crying shame that theological misunderstandings and/or Church politics have separated us from one another.

I pray for the day when we can all be united in faith and leadership. However, at the present time, I would be pleased if the entire Catholic Church grew to appreciate the theological teachings and understandings of the East. I would love to see more Eastern theology written about in Papal Encyclicals and also included in the Catechism. I find that a lot of Latin Catholics are ignorant of the great theological writings of the East; and this is a shame because a vast treasure chest of wisdom is unknown to them.

**Thank you, Dempsey.

Something I have frequently said–including on other fora here–is that knowledge of Eastern theology and spirituality might help in smoothing over difficulties and misunderstandings among Christians.

Sounds like you may be familiar with my hero Vladimir Soloviev…🙂

**I have.

I wonder if he felt that reconciliation with the Roman Church would provide the most freedom for the Russian Church at the time (which alas, was forced to function as a department of state, though she was much more than that, as history has shown).**

We are members at St. John of the Desert Melkite Church here in Phoenix. We are able to receive the Mysteries with the full knowledge and invitation of the Archbishop.
I went to a Holy Crowning at St. John of the Desert Church and was impressed by its beautiful liturgy.

i love icons, especially of Our Lady and the deep meaning they have, and aspire to learn more about them. i admire the piety and traditional liturgy of the Eastern Rites very much. i aspire to become a holy monk, and perhaps a monk-priest like you. 😃
