After 3-4 days of quarreling wit those people over why the Catholic Church is the true Church and why we have the traditions we have and why we worship Mary, and why they are racists and discriminators,I think they are stuck somewhere in my head now.I am shocked.I need some time to get over this.😦
Please tell me that you didn’t tell them that we “worship Mary”.

That is a big misconception that many non Catholics believe as it is. Worship is for God, not Mary.

Once you have stated your case for the gospel and the Church, you have to leave the rest to the Holy Spirit. Believe me, dear one, you will see much of this in your life. Do not let it trouble you. Remain strong in your faith and relationship with God. Those who lack your faith should be prayed for. Give it over to God.

Peace…

Well said. Even on this forum, I find that there are some threads that are best ignored – “Attack of the 50-foot eyesores”, if you will. 😉

I wasn’t actually a witness to the conversation, but I think it’s safe to say that they told her that, not the other way around.
Thank You!
This was very sweet:)

yes, they say we worship Mary.and i tried to give arguments why Mary is important for us,and that they use wrongly the word “worship”,they say we worship Mary because they mock at us there.

That is very true. But it drove me crazy when I saw that they always come wit mockery arguments against me.It became an obession. And I’m shocked…still.

Ok, I went over to that site and started off laughing. I mean “Guaranteeing salvation since 1620?” That’s funny.

Gays collect AIDS in condoms to infect children in swimming pools? And AIDS can be transmitted through the internet. The Pope wants little kids to get drunk? Cats are tools of the devil? (Don’t tell B16!) Rape should be renamed “unplanned sexual encounter?” Oh, and I LOVE the bit that True Christian™ women don’t experience pain in childbirth. And all Asians are pedophiles, wooden rocking horses lead children to bestiality, bowling balls are sexual, coloring books encourage children to go against God’s will, baseball cards make your kids gay, Scrabble is a tool of the devil,

Now, the Westboro Baptists … they’re for real, and they’re scary.

They need a bunch of psychiatres.

Thank goodness. I wasn’t 100% sure when I read the post.

I would just ignore the site. The more you argue with them, the more you’re giving them what they want. Which is to get you upset.

The good thing about the site is that when you read some of their stuff, it bolsters your knowledge that the Church is true.

There is an old saying…“you can’t fix stupid”. You’re not going to fix them or their site, so just pray for them. HARD

:thumbsup:Praying is the only thing we can do for them.Tthey are too stubborn to listen to mere people. They need the srtength of God to show them them the Light.

As several posters said, this is a fake site, a parody. They’ve been around for several years and one year around Halloween they posted a “tour of hell” which was a satire on these “haunted houses” that were popular with fundamentalist churches. The haunted houses were a depiction of what hell was like and featured behavior that was guaranteed to get you there.

I think it’s just kind of creepy and best be ignored.

Sadly, there are unreasonable/stubborn/abusive/etc people – Protestants and Catholics alike – all over the internet. It helps to be very selective about what forums you spend your time on, but even then you’re likely to encounter that sort of thing once in a while.

If I am not mistaken that “church” is a parody on fundamentalist Christianity. I could be confusing them with another Landover church, but I’m not sure. I can’t access the site here at work. Could you tell me what is on the homepage and I may be able to clarify for sure whether or not it’s legit.

The site even specifies that it is a joke. Just how obviously humorous does a satire like that, or any other joke, have to be, before people realise that a piece of humour is…a piece of humour ? What is the problem - is reading comprehension not taught in U.S. schools ?

The problem can’t be that people in the US don’t have a sense of humour, because that is self-evidently false. And it can’t be a failure to appreciate satire - there is no lack of evidence to the contrary; so that is not the problem either. But put “The Da Vinci Code” to people - & some seem not to understand that it is fiction, non-factual, not a statement of what happened, just a story, not an attempt to relate actual events; or that that site is poking fun at certain forms of Christianity.

Maybe the problem is not lack of comprehension of texts, but awareness that they are often written with great sophistication…

As for the site:

The Landover Baptist Church® is not intended for readers under 18 years of age.
My emphasis

Another clue to the character of the site is its tone. Some parts of it may not allow for some doubt as to whether it is a joke or not, but the pictures, text, & tone put together (not forgetting the links) are a pretty good indication as to whether this is a satire or not; this may not be to everyone’s taste, but what genuine Church or fellowship what seriously say what is here:
“Accept Jesus - Get a Free Phone” ? The page even includes “This parody is copyright 2002 - landoverbaptist.com” at the bottom.

Thank You!

ISTM you should be thanking those who wrote the text that appear on the site :), because they are mocking those who say that. The statements on the site are there. because they are mocking what certain sorts of Fundamentalist do in fact say. And that assertion about the BVM is fairly common among Fundamentalists, so it is fair game for a site of this kind.

If anyone has reason to complain, it is Fundamentalist Evangelical Protestants, not Catholics.

Well, to be fair, Mihaela didn’t mention landoverbaptist.org, but rather its companion site landoverbaptist.net, which is slightly less obviously parody.

Exactly right. When Fundamentalists Baptists (or, in this case, people pretending to be) post radically anti-Catholic trash on the internet, the people most likely to get a black-eye out of it are the Fundamentalists Baptists.

Likewise, when Catholics post radically anti-Protestant trash on the internet, the people most likely to get a black-eye out of it are us Catholics.

People just don’t seem to understand that.

It says on their site that it’s a parody. Direct quote:

“The Landover Baptist Church is a complete work of fiction. It is a satire/parody.”

also:

“The Landover Baptist Church website is not intended to be viewed by minors or anyone under the age of 18.”

And they’re greedy. Don’t send them anything, they claim that it will become their property in perpetuity. You don’t need to give them any ammo.
