The Latin Mass - Questions? Neat information? How to get people into it?

I’d like to introduce myself! My name is Anthony and am new to these forums. The reason I created an account here is I am looking to brainstorm scripting ideas for short web TV show series I am doing for the school. I am also the president of the Latin Mass Society, an organization of my college, and I intend to use this video to allow people to learn more about the church and it’s traditions.

Very good presentation. There is one Church in my area that provides a Latin Mass. I need to attend and check it out.

I’d question the need to read the Scripture or prayers twice. If one is going to attend Mass in any language, one should understand that language so that one can fully participate. Otherwise, one is just an observer.

While this girl is positive and upbeat, there were a few minor errors. Unfortunately, I’ve seen the errors creep in with young conservatives and the errors take over. For example, when did the Mass become the 8th Sacrament? I learned about 7.

Vatican II never told us to abandon Latin. Nor did it say that the Novus Ordo would only be celebrated in the vernacular. But we all need to seriously ask why so many have opted for Mass in the vernacular. Maybe it’s not about anything more than wanting to know what’s going on, understand it, and be able to be part of it without having to learn another language. Maybe that’s all it is.

It would be nice to see the next edition of the Missal go back to the vernacular, and not the formal stilted barely speakable verbiage we now have. It’s our prayer, not a Shakespeare festival.

The 1962 Missal is to be done only in Latin, with possible options for vernacular readings of the Epistle and Gospel in the Low Mass. Note, however, that if a priest objects to a translation, and I’ve seen/heard this happen, he may always give the readings in Latin, even in the New Mass. In fact, the New Mass may be said entirely in Latin as well.

Note also, though, that most of the older Latin Mass is said quietly or in low tones, so forcing parts to be spoken loudly eats into the integrity of the Latin Mass. I know I for one will not support any babelization or dumbing down of the old Latin Mass, no matter the quality of the translation used. There are plenty of internet aids and handmissals to help one understand what’s going on in the Latin Mass without the vernacular. I still have my old prayer book that explains all of this using pictures.

The 1962 Missal is to be done only in Latin, with possible options for vernacular readings of the Epistle and Gospel in the Low Mass.

According to the rubrics of the Missal and common practice, the Epistle and Gospel, along with everything else in the Mass, must be in Latin. The priest may choose to reread the Epistle and Gospel in the vernacular prior to the homily, but that does not take precedence over the actual Epistle and Gospel of the Mass, which are in Latin.

Actually the Mass is not a Sacrament, although it depends on some of them.

The Seven Sacraments are: Baptism, Eucharist (Holy Communion), Confirmation, Reconciliation (Confession), Anointing of the Sick (formerly Extreme Unction), Marriage, and Ordination (Holy Orders).

Interestingly, the name of the Mass referencing the Apocalypse, “Marriage Supper of the Lamb” describes two Sacraments in a five word event.

Precisely.

One can read Shakespeare in Polish and may understand the plot better, but Shakespeare was not all about plots. His language and exact wordings still need to be studied in order to learn Shakespeare. Just like the Latin Mass.
