"The Law" as mentioned in Galatians and Romans

So does the “Law” mentioned in the Bible by Paul in Galatians and Romans refer specifically to Jewish rituals like circumcision and not eating lobster? Because I have heard of Evangelicals who argue that it refers to EVERYTHING even acts of kindness, because “love is the fulfillment of the law” and they cite Romans 13:10 as an example of their belief that acts of kindness in love counts as “works of the law”

There are two laws. The first is the law as it should have been, the second law (deutero nomy) which was imposed on the people because of the incident with the golden calf. The second law was imposed on the people to keep them in bondage away from their idolatry. Levites were not the original priest, the firstborn were. But because of the golden calf the priesthood was stripped of the firstborn and given to the tribe of Levi because of their role outside and therefore inside the incident.

Jesus Christ came to free (redeem) those in that imposed bondage, the Jews from the second law, that they might find the true Law of God, the one that was defined by Jesus Christ as love God, love neighbour, and thus the perfect Law as it was, expressed in the 10 commandments.

Jesus Christ came to fulfil the Law, but it was the one prior to the incident with the golden calf, which because of Him, was able to when the time was right, bring things back to the way it should have been as a reconciliation between God and man.

Therefore the law was described as a schoolmaster.

Protestants vary on this matter. Anyway, the law is fulfilled to the extent that we love God with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength and our neighbor as ourselves, the Greatest Commandments. This love defines our justice and is the basis of God’s judgment of man. So St Paul quotes a handful of the Ten Commandments in Rom 8-10 as examples of the law being fulfilled, the right way, the New Covenant way, by love. From the catechism:

**1022 Each man receives his eternal retribution in his immortal soul at the very moment of his death, in a particular judgment that refers his life to Christ: either entrance into the blessedness of heaven-through a purification592 or immediately,593-or immediate and everlasting damnation.594

At the evening of life, we shall be judged on our love.595**
 
Paul when preaching and teaching gentiles and Jews, he was speaking of the Law of Moses and Jewish rituals, not anything like kindness etc. All one needs to do is read the Gospels and see what Jesus did and said and one readily see’s that we are to do for others as we can; not the I only need faith and need not do any good deed or work.
