The Laws of Leviticus and Mt 5:17-19

Why is it that the Laws in Leviticus do not apply to us, when Jesus said that? Doesn’t that passage state that no Laws were abolished and that all must be kept?

Because Levitical Laws are laws of man, where as the 10 commandments are the Laws of God…See the verse in NT about the Moses giving law for divorce (because of the hardness of man’s heart), but divorce leads to adultery in the eyes of God’s law.

The Levitical Laws would spin off even more and more laws by the Pharisees, prompting Christ’s proclamation that all those who are brudened should come to Him for his yoke is light.

Today, we see confusion even here over what is God’s law and what is not, when people are quick to recite the Code of Canon Law to chastise or even condemn the actions of someone. These, like the Levitical Law are guidelines for the faithful, but while we can be guilty of violating Church Law, it does not necessarily mean we have committed grave sin.

Following God should never be a burden, but an awesome act of joy!

Is this something that’s actually stated in the Bible, the difference between Leviticus Laws and Laws of God? Or is it something that was stated by the Church after the writing of the Bible.

Divine Law is that which is enacted by God and made known to man through revelation. We distinguish between the Old Law, contained in the Pentateuch, and the New Law, which was revealed by Jesus Christ and is contained in the New Testament. The Divine Law of the Old Testament, or the Mosaic Law, is commonly divided into civil, ceremonial, and moral precepts. The civil legislation regulated the relations of the people of God among themselves and with their neighbours; the ceremonial regulated matters of religion and the worship of God; the moral was a Divine code of ethics. In this article we shall confine our attention exclusively to the moral precepts of the Divine Law. In the Old Testament it is contained for the most part and summed up in the Decalogue (Exodus 20:2-17; Leviticus 19:3, 11-18; Deuteronomy 5:1-33).

The reason we no longer follow the mosaic law is because it was fulfilled. in that a lot of the law was pertaining to being clean and offering sacrifices to God. When Jesus died he was the final sacrifice and his blood cleansed all who believe in him. In one action Jesus took away the need for the majority of the law. However he did not abolish it and we are still supposed to follow the moral law for example the 10 commandments which Christ simplified to this “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength and love your neighbor as yourself.” (loosely quoted) I hope that makes sense.

Law was created for man, not man for the law. Is the way I see it.
