The Church of Latter-Day Saints believes in God, who they regards as one god among many.
Here’s the big problem with this, logic-wise:
God is an axiom. An axiom is a self-evident proposition, for example, “man is man”. The name God is singular, and, as the uppercase usage of the word “god” shows, God means one god, no other gods. Hence, God being God is self-evident, an axiom.
There cannot be God and other gods beside God. It’s illogical. Hence, to put polytheism - belief in more than one god - and monotheism - belief in only one god - together is not possible, logically or theologically.
This is why the Catholic Church dose not regard the Church of Latter-Day Saints as Christian: It believes in other gods beside God.
Some LDS apologists have twisted the verses of Scripture, saying God forbids worship of other gods because He is the God of our world; He dose not forbid worship of other gods because other gods don’t exist, He forbids it because He is our God, the God of our world, and some apologists twist the meaning of “jealous God” to make their arguments appear more real and scriptural. Other apologists say God forbids worship of other gods because He is the only God of Earth and no other god is like unto Him - however, this would contradict the LDS belief in multiple gods, as God would be lying about the existence of other gods of other worlds.
It is also interesting to note that God continuosly reminds Israel that He alone is the God and no other God exists save Him, the Lord. In fact, He goes as far as demanding Israel to not even acknowledge other gods - meaning they cannot believe in other gods, they can only believe that one God exists, no other lords or gods. This contradicts the LDS belief in many gods beside God.
“God is a Jealous God, a God of Jealousy”: He demands absolute allegience from Israel, whom He has taken into marriage with Himself - in the Covenant - and this is why He always refers to Israel as a bride who commits adultery whenever His People turned to other gods or lords other than the Lord; God is also a Jealous God becuase He vigorously protects His People as His own, shielding them from evil and - countless times - being very merciful to Israel rather than punishing His People for their sins. Hence, in the Old Testament, God is shown as a faithful Husband and a merciful Father.
Finally, it is again interesting to note that in calling Israel to believe in Himself, God is calling Israel to the absolute truth and to imitate His holiness, justice, and love and mercy: He is calling His People to seek the truth and to live according to it, and this is one reason why He gave the Commandments: to show man the truth about God, about himself, and about the relationship between God and man, God and Israel, and Israel and the rest of the world.
