I still remember how fast the Berlin Wall fell. It was a bit shocking really. It makes me wonder about the LDS Church and if it can fall in the same way (rather than just air coming out of a balloon slowly).

What would it take for this to happen? IMHO, likely one or more of the 12 to repudiate the LDS faith. Certainly with God, this is possible.

What are your thoughts here? This picture reminds me of Catholic’s helping Mormon’s to come to the Truth in Christ.

I certainly hope not. Many Mormons as they discover the truth end up with a serious crisis of faith. Most that I know of end up atheists or at the very least agnostic, and very angry and bitter. With serious trust issue of any thing religious…

Not to mention that the LDS is a MAJOR employer in the Mormon corridor. The economic impact of that area would be nothing less then devastation…

The Lord is patience, merciful and kind. To have the LDS Church fall like the Berlin Wall would be nothing less that catastrophically devastating, both economically and spiritually.

Most former Mormons see the going from Mormonism to Catholicism as going from the pot into the fire.

Those of us here who are former Mormons and now are Catholic are a very very small minority.

Most give up anything having to do with religion.

Then let’s pray that the Good Lord will gently lead them to His kingdom.

Fall? Maybe, but not as quick as you might imagine (or hope).

With the information age upon us, it is getting much harder (on a daily basis) to keep control over the membership, due to the ease of finding information that was once hidden.

People are learning amazing truths on a daily basis. Many are leaving, some are staying.

If they don’t start opening up about the “truth” of things, instead of dodging them, it’s going to get even worse. Wasn’t it the head of their membership dept that made a statement about members leaving at the highest rate in their history?

Building multi-BILLION dollar shopping malls isn’t exactly helping their image as a “church” either.

Another big problem is how easy it is for them to change their doctrine. Blacks and the priesthood. Thousands of changes to the BoM. The spelling and punctuation excuse has been overplayed, and people are seeing right through it.

After their problems with Prop 8 in California, and the court judgements surrounding it, we are starting to see a shift in how they deal with the homosexual community. Which is good in as much as EVERYONE should be treated with dignity and respect.

They had a huge PR nightmare on temple square not that long ago when their security forces dealt with a homosexual couple on temple square.

I just have a sneaking hunch that we will see a doctrinal change/revelation changing how they view and deal with it.

It seems like they are always in damage control mode for one thing or another.

That certainly is the most wise and merciful course of action.

Finding out Mormonism is false is spiritually traumatizing for many if not most Mormons.

While it’s true that those souls losing their attachment to religion would be bad, wouldn’t it be better than having generation after generation of Mormons continuing to believe in their… ‘religion’ ?

Do you think angry and bitter atheism/agnostism is a good thing?

At least as Mormons, they believe in God, even if it’s a distorted understanding…

But the ends do not justify the means…does it not?

I believe in the Lord’s All encompassing Mercy…

I believe in spiritual life, not spiritual death.
Going back to the OP original post. No, I dont think having the Mormon church fall like the Berlin Wall is a good thing.

It is crumbling, regardless. It is less traumatic if if it’s not in one catastrophic heap.

Like other poster said, the Lord gently shephardling the LDS people into His Kingdom is a wiser.

I would rather see a miracle of mass conversion. 🙂

Maybe I haven’t kept up with the LDS church, so what is happening that makes everyone believe it is crumbling?

Just wondering…

One just has to look at some of the threads here. 😛

Changes to their scripture.

Head of church membership says they are losing members at highest rate ever, including mass resignations.

Just to name a couple.

I don’t think the LDS church will ever fall, let’s not forget who established it, and his warfare will go on till our Lord returns, That it will be chipped away at definitely, that many will leave yes, and sadly many of them will not look any further for truth. So it will look to recruit from those countries that have less access to the knowledge that we have. A bit like the cigarette companies focused on poor countries for the same reason. However this will not be so lucrative for the LDS church, 10% of income from the poorest people isn’t going to amount to much. It will certainly be interesting to watch, but in the meantime we are called to witness, and so it goes on, until He comes again:)

As a active LDS member, I respectfully understand you choose to do what you are doing. I am not bothered at all.

As I have stated, if I believes everything that someone states here, I am in trouble and will be threatened by what is said when I am not al all.
