Yeah, Rebecca, “Pathfinder” has been out quite a while. I’ve not seen it, but I have seen a trailer for it. We will never know how extensive the influence was, as if it mattered to rational people. We do know that the “windigo” were survivors adopted into the tribes. It was horrible for those last people who were left behind. 😦

I think the reason this thread doesn’t work to bring a sense of unity is because it doesn’t address a fundamental truth that creates a chasm that must be bridged in order to discuss what is common to our respective faith’s.

That truth is that all the articles in the publication express principles that use terms that are common to both professions but are conceptualized in radically opposing ways.

If that reality is ignored or denied a sense of insincerity will overshadow the discussion.

We must acknowledge that what Catholics believe is ‘new’ about the Good News is not what Mormons believe is new. After that truth is established we can respectively discuss what we both agree is the good of God that news means to us both.

Mormons see the descriptions of idolatry that the Hebrews struggled with in the OT, not as something that is good to be grown out of, but as something that was lost and needs to be restored.

The movie is pretty bad. Along the lines of “Conan the Barbarian” bad.

I thought the windigo were mythical creatures?

Yeah, there’s a list. For a short while burnt offerings were made in the Mormon temple.

It’s like they don’t get the the progression of humans is not towards godhood, but towards Truth. That Truth culminating and ultimately found in a Person, Jesus Christ.

Trust me, that is the case. I was the I.S. Manager for Kirton & McConkie (the LDS Church’s law firm) for 5 years. I am aware of the case. It is rather silly, but that is the way that the courts ruled.

How long ago was that, and could things have changed since then? If what you say is correct, why then is it that the LDS Church does not acknowledge copyright ownership to them in its publication of the JST? In any case, I thought copyright titles automatically ended after the lapse of so many years (around 70 years I think). Nobody owns the copyright to the KJV Bible for example.

I enjoy Conan the Barbarian movies, Waterworld, and Thunderdome. The unreality of the suits me just fine. that is why I enjoy the BOM. 😃

I believe that the windigo myth has some foundation in reality.
