The lies about Thanksgiving

Robwar, you seem to really have it in for me, why? Your distaste almost seems nearly palpable. You really know nothing about me.

Yes it is true that freedom of religion existed nowhere in the16th century. But we have moved on since. And what I was taught in grade school posited there was and that is why pilgrims supposedly came here.

Just don’t get the unprovoked meaness.

I wasn’t trying to be hostile but I think the original point of the post was not very logical and while you were trying to connect the modern religious “right” with pilgrims of the 1620’s, the fact don’t fit. Again, it came across as judging 1600 by todays understanding and ideas. The early colonies were sort of the dumping ground for different religious groups that didn’t go along with the legal or official church. So then they were sent across the ocean which was a very dangerous trip to here. Did all these different groups get along, no and they spread out and form different colonies. I think if you have ever went to Plymouth and actually go on the reproduced Mayflower and see how small that boat was which was actually a cargo ship, not meant for 100+people and all these people were were one deck below all together, acrossing the Atlantic in the fall, 66 days at sea without any convience as we know it today, you might just come away with some respect for what they did and went through. they weren’t the Puritans who came after them and then dominated the colony of Mass. What really surprised me visiting there is that the piligrim didn’t even go for 66 days on the top deck, they just stayed below. One women even gave birth on that ship. That is not wimpy faith but very determined devoted people. And when half of them died that first winter, leaving many families with just one or two left and then not lose their faith in all that loss, that is the real deal and they still could celebrate with thanksgiving a year later. sorry but you wanted to bring up lies about them but the truth is that they were very admirable people and have been so until history revisionist want to blame them for everything under the sun.
