So as some of you may know, I had been wondering about ways in which I could extend the amount of time and prayer I did in the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite Liturgy of the Hours.

I actually wasn’t aware, until recently, that the Little Office of the BVM is actually a Liturgical Office of the Church - I had been under the impression it was simply a private devotional.

So, I was delighted to find out the LOBVM is an approved Liturgical Office of the Church. So now I want to purchase a version of it so that I can pray that alongside the regular LOTH.

I’m looking for an approved Liturgical version, in the vernacular, which is meant to go along with the OF LOTH in English. Does anyone have a recommendation and/or source for me?

@OraLabora @FrDavid96 - do you guys ever use the LOBVM?
 
Me, never. Already have my hands full with the full monastic LOTH 😉

I know the Carthusians pray a version in addition to their monastic Office. No idea where to obtain a “liturgical” one. It was also used by lay brothers in many monasteries instead of praying the main Office in choir. Our abbey like most has eliminated that category of monk as it was never part of St. Benedict’s intention to have two “classes” of monk in his Rule.

If I could chant and knew Latin and could use a Monastic Office or the EF Breviary, I think I’d just do that.

But given my circumstances and station in life, I think the Little Office is the answer to my prayers.

I figure combining the LO with the OF LOTH, if I pray the full Office, should be able to bump me up to about 2 hours per day, which is perfect. Currently if I pray the full LOTH in a day, slowly and reverently, I can get about 1 and 1/4 hour of Liturgy. I figure adding in the LO will bump it up to 2, which is ideal for me.

Monastic schema B that I use is about that, 2:15 in winter, and 1:45 or so in summer where I exercise some rubrical simplifications: 2-wk schema for Vigils and only 1 mid day hour also on a 2-wk cycle, and shorter readings at Vigils.

Lauds and Vespers in Latin Gregorian chant, the rest recto-tono in French except for Gregorian hymns.

I don’t personally use it, as I simply stay with the standard version.
 
Thank you @Cloisters, but I hate using my phone to pray the Liturgy. It just doesn’t feel right. I prefer a physical book…

Although, I will check that link out and see if I like that version and can find it in print.

That is ideal because the 4 volume LOTH I use is the Catholic Book Publishing version, so I very much like the idea of using the CBP LO as well!

I shall order it next week!
 
Thanks @Cloisters that’s the version Fr David pointed me to and the version I’ll order next week.

Maybe in a few more years when my Latin is better I’ll order the traditional Latin version, but for the near future I’m bound to recite it in English!
 
Many religious sisters used to pray the LOBVM before Vatican II. In such cases, they have English next to the Latin. Perhaps you could do some searches to see if you can find any old prayer books. I have at least three.

I prefer praying the LOTH either on the tablet or comp. The paper is too dingy for my eyes now.

Your comment reminded me of my late son’s ex-girlfriend. He read the Bible on his phone, but, as she put it, “I have to have paper.”
