Here again, it depends on the diocese. Some (e.g, Chanangasserry) hold fast to ad orientem, while others, (e.g. Ernakulum & Thrissur) insist on using the versus populum table. From what I’ve been told the latter is, unfortunately, the rule in the US.

It was much worse many years ago, but things are slowly settling down (I hope!).

Well, this did use to be the case a few years ago but I wouldn’t be as pessimistic now. A lot depends upon which diocese the parish priest came from in India. If it is one of the more Latinized dioceses, ad populum and the traditional (right!) way from less-Latinized dioceses. For the recent visit of HB Mar George Alenchery, every Qurbana was celebrated ad orientam (even in my parish!). However, that is sadly not the case on a daily basis
