Over the years Dobrev became detached from the material aspects of life and devoted himself entirely to God. For decades he was a beggar in Bulgaria, in Eastern Europe. Around the year 2000, he decided to donate all his belongings to charities, orphanages, churches and monasteries. It is the example he gives with his asceticism that led many to call him The Saint of Bailovo.

Over the course of his lifetime, Dobrev donated over 80,000 Bulgarian lev (40,000 euros) to churches, monasteries and other noble deeds. (from Wikipedia)

On February 13, a few days ago, he died at 103.

The spirit of St Francis seems a hard life to follow. One has to wonder at the vision received, that a person trusts in God so completely.

I know about him. Yes it is such a wondrous life he lived.
Patriarch Neofit of Bulgaria came to his funeral which was held in ““grandpa””'s Dobri hometown church.
This old man walked each day 25 km to get to Sophia and the cathedral where he was begging.
He was born in the same day as I am, on the feast of St. Elli.
Just thinking about this old man I feel healed from today’s unusual sadness that has been engulfing for the past 2 hrs or so…
I hope he was or one day will be welcome by St. Elli in the tents of the righteous in Heaven.
May God forgive him and Christ receive him.
