The LONGEST song you enjoy listening to?

  1. Stairway to heaven
  2. Jesus of Surburbia (Bad moral but it’s catchy, I just like the sound. Don’t listen to it however.
  3. There are plenty of smaller artists out there that tend to have songs from 6 to 7 minutes at least.
    Just find them.

One of the provisos of them doing this was that they were to be allowed to play whatever they wanted, and the BBC agreed. I am a prog rock lover too (especially Pink Floyd)
Too many to name but many of Pink Floyd’s longer tracks such as A Saucerful of Secrets and as mentioned by previous poster “Echoes” The live version of Shine On…from Pulse that combines the two parts is excellent. Many songs by Yes, Jethro Tull, Genesis, Oldield, Rush etc. along with those by modern prog acts such as Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater and Sigur Ros ( i also like many other prog acts who aren’t known for long tracks such as Muse and Radiohead)

Off the top of my head I really love the song by Yes “Close To The Edge” which is the title track to that album.

Yes, that definitely should be on the list! And the performance really has to be seen as well as heard.
 
Not my personal favorite, but long song and very good. I played the drums for many years, and played this song live in one of my bands back in 1990. The crowds loved it.

Personally, I consider the album Abbey Road one big piece. I only like listening to it if I have enough time to listen to the entire album or even just half, but never just one song here or there (unless it’s “Something” or “Here Comes the Sun”). That album doesn’t have one bad song on it and I think it should be heard from “Come Together” to “Her Majesty” so I would consider it the longest thing I listen to.

YES!!!
I LOVE the instrumental part of the song.

My favorite version of the song is the unplugged version because it’s easier to hear the lyrics and it’s one of the first songs and riffs I learned on guitar, but please give me the instrumental piece at the end any day. So beautiful.

Good ol’ Great White. 🙂 This has always been my favorite song of theirs. I think this is the first “long song” I encountered as a lad. Of course, now that I listen to lots of power/prog rock/metal, 7 minutes doesn’t seem so long anymore. But for a hard rock act in the 80s, it was definitely outside of the norm.

In terms of rock music - Probably Bat out of hell by Meat Loaf.

I would listen to symphonies and orchestral compositions (sometimes to pray) which are maybe 30 mins - an hour or longer. Not sure If that counts though… 🙂
 
These don’t run quite as long as the longer prog chestnuts, but for power blues and classic hard rock, they ain’t too shabby-

As far as long songs go it’s not that long, maybe 7-8 minutes, but I really like “I Want You: She’s So … HEAVY” by the Beatles.

Definitely Echoes by Pink Floyd for me. I listen to it on the way to work and the song isn’t over by the time I get there 🙂
 
Yeah I mentioned it in an earlier post and I also had another listen to it today. Great song. Also check out the version on the Live In Pompeii DVD.
 
I have a 9 minute version of Stabat Mater on my iPod, and I really love to turn my mind to our Lord’s passion as I listen.
 
“Albuquerque,” by “Weird Al” Yankovic. Sadly, I have it memorized.

I’ll also listen to “Hey Jude” all the way through as I enjoy hearing Paul McCartney screaming at the end.

I’m a little odd sometimes. 😊
