Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Reading the Diary of St. Faustina this morning, this entry startled me, yet I believe it is true. St. Faustina wrote this entry on “Shrove Tuesday” - that is the day before Ash Wednesday on which Mardi Gras and other carnivals take place, sometimes over a period of days, in different countries. St. Faustina wrote about a carnival at that time:
Only God knows the day and the hour when the end will come for the present world, when He will come again in glory, and when He will make all things new (as the Book of Revelations tells us). Yet He has given us warnings through Scripture, Tradition and the Magisterium of the Church. So while St. Faustina’s words startled me, I remembered similar words from Jesus and from saints thorough the ages who were given to know both His Mercy and His Justice. Our Blessed Mother has appeared more frequently on this earth during the 20th and 21st centuries and she too has warned us, reminding of Jesus’ words and of our need to “Repent and believe.”( cf Mark 1:15)
- Feb. 9, 1937. Shrove Tuesday. During the last two days of the carnival, I experienced the overwhelming flood of chastisements and sins. In one instant the Lord gave me a knowledge of the sins committed throughout the whole world during these days. I fainted from fright, and even though I know the depth of God’s Mercy, I was surprised that God allows humanity to exist. And the Lord gave me to know who it is that upholds the existence of mankind: it is chosen souls. When the number of chosen souls is complete, the world will cease to exist.
Ephesians 1:3-6 can give us hope and confidence in God’s call to holiness:
By His Grace let us continue to pray with St. Faustina “Jesus, I trust in You”. He who calls us is Faithful and He has given the Church His Holy Spirit to lead us and guide us into all Truth. God willing, I will continue this week, posting the entries following this one, which she wrote on Feb. 9 which can help us in our own efforts to grow closer to Jesus, as St. Faustina and all the saints have grown, especially our Mother Mary, as they journeyed on this earth.…Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens, as he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and without blemish before him. In love he destined us for adoption to himself through Jesus Christ, in accord with the favor of his will, for the praise of the glory of his grace that he granted us in the beloved.
