If we believe that the flesh and blood and divinity of Jesus Christ is in the eucharistic bread and wine do we not also believe the Jesus Christ has in some way or form already returned.
Acts 1:10 and 11 tells us that Jesus will return in the same way that he let the earth, as a whole being just he left the earth, not a little bit here and there and now and then in bread and wine.

Catholics understand that Christ’s Presence in the Eucharist is his way of being “with us always” (Mt. 28:20). When he comes again for the last time, it will be in the same way that he left, as you correctly note.

When Jesus returns it will be for all mankind, and He will be visible and recognizable to all.

There is, by the way, a “teaching” by the Baptists

revivalmidwest.org/

which offers a tape set that the current generation is the last generation (sounds like JW to me) and the return of the Lord is thus “known” to be soon.

As for the Eucharist, those who believe Jesus spoke the Truth in John 6, should all be Catholic. Those who don’t or did not believe Him were allowed to walk away.

It all ties together… ministerial priesthood, succession, the Church, and the Eucharist. And that fullness of the Truth is only found in the Catholic Church with its great numbers of sinners.

Has the Lord returned? Not yet.

Did He leave us orphans? Not hardly.

Will He be with us for all the ages? Absolutely.

He’s already here if we will but recognize and acknowledge Him. Whatever you to to the least of these, you do to Me.

Allischalmers -

The Eucharist isn’t Christ returned. It is his promise at the end of Matthew’s Gospel:

Matt. 28:20
". . . And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age."

He will return in his glorified state at the end.

"Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ" - St. Jerome

Others have answered the main question, but I just wanted to point out that Catholics don’t believe that the Eucharist is “a little bit” of Christ. Rather, it is ALL of Him, whole and entire.

This is a common anti-catholic comment that I have seen on Rapture ready and other boards. Even when I have explained that Catholics don’t think of it as Him returning again and again they have to disagree, because to accept the Catholic belief then they would have to agree that it is scriptural, even if they do not agree with the interpretation based upon their faith tradition. This is usually not their fault, just some pastors sometimes have some funny ideas of what Catholics really believe.

So to clarify, Catholics are not saying He has returned as in the second coming but His presence is always here as He promised.

He will return bodily just as Catholics believe, ""Then they will see the Son of Man, coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory, and all His angels with Him "

In Christ,
Scylla

I see you still haven’t gone through the CD of the Early Catholic Fathers you said you purchased. :angel1:

Peace and God Bless

Allis,

Jesus, besides returning the way He left, also promised that He would be with us always, to the end of the age. The Eucharist is the fulfillment of that promise. We also look for Jesus to come back on the clouds, “with the sound of a trumpet and the word of command,” at the end of time. The two beliefs are not mutually exclusive.

Forever Baptist must quote Forever Catholic Teaching on the Eucharist BEFORE throwing us to the lions as Nero did for our belief in the Eucharist.

The Eucharistic Presence of Jesus Christ is not the same presence as His Second Coming at the End of Time.

Oh how many little Jesus pieces can there be!

God cannot be in so many places at one time, you stupid humans…

So stop believing what the Apostles taught you… they were WRONG. They also believed the world was flat…

You must go with this new reformed baptist theology that teaches otherwise.

So the voice of Satan is heard.

It is so funny that people continue to argue against the Catholic Teaching on the Eucharist.

If it was a symbol as the “Baptists” claim then there should have survived records of that teaching. There even should have survived oral records not written down of that teaching.

And golly gee… why is Scripture not saying that the Eucharist is a Symbol? Even Protestant preachers have to CHANGE the words of Scripture to come up with such an erroneous theory. I watched one evangelist say, “Jesus said 'Take this - this REPRESENTS my body”. What a lie! Jesus DID NOT SAY THAT!

There is an aspect of ‘parousia’ in the Eucharist. That can be seen by the fact that Catholics interpret the Apocalypse of John to be refering to the heavenly Liturgy. This does not mean there will not be an actualy future event when Christ will return and be recognizable to the senses. Christ will return

This is so funny. Today on my way home from classes I had been pondering this as a possible objection to the Real Presence. Oh, how predictable!

A hit and run from Allis?

…and yet what did St. Paul say about the Eucharist?
" For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes." (1st Corinthians 11:26)

and we affirm this again at every Mass when we say.
“Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.”
Pax Domiini sit semper vobiscum,

And I heard this priest who is on a Christian radio station on thursday mornings give the following analogy-

“I take here in my hand a painting of Abraham Lincoln (either that or a $100 bill - something like that). I am now tearing it into pieces - am I sinning against Abraham Lincoln? Look - Look - !!! I am tearing an image of him, something that represents his likeness…am I sinning against Abraham Lincoln?”

"Of course not. All I am doing is tearing a photograph. HE IS NOT THERE! This photo is not his body and blood.

So St. Paul says, if you eat and drink unworthilly you sin against the body and blood of the Lord!

Thanks. I actually started with these forums in June, but my registration was lost in the big crash of '06. 😉
