The Lord's Prayer

WE, in the Philippines, before the Third Translation of the Roman Missal used a different version of the Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father
in heaven
holy be Your name
your kingdom come
your Will be done
on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
and [orgive us our **sins

as we forgive those who sinned
against us
Do not bring us to the test
But deliver us from evil
Amen

Any info about the origins of the two versions, the other with the thy, thou.

Thy and Thou are the familiar forms of your and you. Late modern english no longer uses the familiar forms. Thou is the equivalent of the Spanish word tu.

A lot of this seems similar to a modern version used by some protestant groups. However the line “Do not bring us to the test” I have never heard before, and the implications of “the test” sound to me quite different from “temptation” - “the test” sounds like a one time event, i.e. the Day of Judgement, whereas temptation as we all know is a daily occurrence.

That was the old ICET ecumenical version. The Philippines had approval to use it at Mass.

The Devil was known as “The Tester” in the sense that Jesus was not tempted by the devil in the desert but was tested.

This is a very ancient way to pray this prayer.
