It’s so wonderful to have a twenty year old who is so interested in her faith!
One of the things I always liked about our Church in the fifties was the fact that any time of day or night you could drop in and pay a visit, this was Washington DC in the fifties (God was still fixing you). Now it’s very hard to find any Church that you just enter to say a quick rosary or to make the stations of the Cross during the middle of the weekday.

Also, when there was something that you wanted to pray for we had candles you could light, generally the offering was ten cents. We don’t have that anymore either.

BTW, this also was the time when the Church would aggressively campaign for the 20 to 30 year old folks with dances, requests for volunteers at the various charities (soup kitchens, St Ann’s orphanage…). They were a desirable group to get to know. If I remember correctly we could even hold wedding and baby showers in some of the rooms of the school and church. That made the Church relevant in a “family” type sense to their lives.
Then, when they would marry, they would bring their kids to Church and so it would go…
Hehe, thanks, I’m actually a male just to clarify 😃 . Although I certainly am young, I think it might not be wise for the church to try to campaign too agressively to my generation, at least in a modernization sense, as it is probably also responsible for the removing of traditions, such as the ones you mentioned. As far as I’m concerned modernization has its orgins in selfishness/culture of death/free love and all that evil stuff.

You are the second new young man to be mistaken for a female here.

I guess it just goes to show you how far the feminization of the Catholic church has gone. We all just naturally assume that if you are devoted, you must be female.

GOOD ON YOU, young man! We need people like you in the church!

LOL! 🙂

That could be part of it, but when they started locking the churches they also discouraged a lot of visits.

I was shocked to learn that some kids were never taught the Rosary-I can’t remember if my mother taught it to me, or the school.

I don’t think that the Church has ever condoned all that evil stuff, so more than that is going on.
Throughout history there have been some pretty evil things going on, and yet the Church continued.
There’s a reason that the Church is getting older. Possibly it’s because the LOVE generation just stopped going, or wanted to divorce and were asked to leave too hastily…but apparently enough of them stayed to continue to suppport the Church.

No kidding! I totally agree.
What is the Toetag team, btw?

Personally, knowing the term is offending someone on the board and also that it is against forum rules to use that term, I would not. But understanding that the poster who used it tried to edit (too late) and apologized for it, should be enough.
I don’t have a problem with that term, given that it has already been pointed out that it stands for radical feminists who are pro-abortion and anti-family.

Where is it stated that it’s against forum rules to use the word feminazi?

Why not ask a moderator?
I didn’t say it was forbidden, but since it is hate speech I would hope that it is.

Back in the old days (1950s) churches did a whole lot more for your age group, they would have dances where young Catholics could meet and greet, a few of my married friends actually found their spouses this way.

I have no idea why that doesn’t go on anymore, in the Jewish community, at least in MY area, they still have special events for the 21-35 age group and they’re well attended…
Why don’t you know? 😃 People in this age group are supposed to attend Theology on Tap, where they get a dose of theology with a brew; or a margarita; or a glass of wine. Cash bar, of course. How strong or weak the theology discussion depends on the speaker’s chosen topic, how closely the speaker sticks to the topic, and who’s the most loaded by the mid-point.

And I can’t believe this thread rolled into five pages since Thursday!

I guess I’m happy to be in a big place like St. Louis. You can find any variety of Mass you want! We have 2 Cathedrals – very traditional, we have several places for Latin Masses, we have the Our Lady of the Snows across the river in Belleville where most of the Mass is sung…
Our Lady of the Snows! One of my favorite places with the Oblates, along with the shrine in San Antonio!

I live around Chicago. Plenty of variety, plenty of public transportation- except on Sundays.

I think it falls under 4 or 5, but hey if we are all in agreement on the whole abortion thing (and why shouldn’t we be?) It’s cool with me!

WHAT???
I can’t believe that you would come to a Catholic forum and write such a thing!
Where is your charity and who are YOU to call someone a lost soul?
To say that someone may be a lost soul is hardly insulting/uncharitable and the first line in the OP’s post is
I belong to the Lost
Generation of Catholics.

  1. Feminazi is a made-up name so I don’t think it falls under those rules.

Thanks for looking up the rules, though, when I was too lazy to do so!

    😛

Is there really such a thing as Theology on Tap?
The closest we get is when we have our “Lady’s Tea” and our wonderful Pastor (God Bless him and give him long life) walks around pouring gin into the teacups stating that it’s “Holy Water” (with a wink, of course!)

I apologize for the term then, I should have used militant feminist perhaps. I guess when one has been called names such as backward thinking misogynist one gets a bit defensive. Perhaps I should just let her have her way and I will move on to where men are priest and women are not, or where the CCC is taught and believed and not called just some old book some old men thought up in Rome. Again I apologize for my uncharitable reactions.
Thank you very much. You are quite gracious.

Hardly the same thing, Cat.
Lost soul, member of a lost generation…don’t much see the difference. Maybe the OP left the thread because it got so horribly off-track.

BTW, the screen name is CatQuilt, not cat.

That could be part of it, but when they started locking the churches they also discouraged a lot of visits.
QUOTE]

Unfortunately, society has changed too much for the worse to allow most churches to be open during the day. Today’s criminals are worse than ever and think nothing of stealing from a church or committing sacreligious vandalism. That’s not the fault of the church that it has to be locked, that’s our American society.

Exactly…was it not just this past week that a Church in NYC was robbed of over $3000 from the poor box:eek:
If you really need to get into a locked church ring the rectory bell and explain that you would like to enter…the Priests will unlock the doors for you:D
