QUOTE]

Unfortunately, society has changed too much for the worse to allow most churches to be open during the day. Today’s criminals are worse than ever and think nothing of stealing from a church or committing sacreligious vandalism. That’s not the fault of the church that it has to be locked, that’s our American society.
They could install security cameras. But I know what you mean, a lady was actually raped and robbed in one of our DC churches.
We have a small chapel attached to our church that’s open 24/7, people are commenting on how lucky we are in my parish.

Our parish had a poor box stolen on Christmas Day.
We estimate we lost 500.00.

My hubby and the other Ushers are going to discuss security at the next meeting. Our parish is open from 5:00am to sometimes Midnight.
We are just getting our cameras in.

Unfortunately, some criminals will destroy churches even when they are locked. This is just how evil society has become. Not only the Catholic churches, but all churches have had this happen. newsnet5.com/crimestoppers/10147525/detail.html

I was shocked to learn that some kids were never taught the Rosary-I can’t remember if my mother taught it to me, or the school.

I don’t think that the Church has ever condoned all that evil stuff, so more than that is going on.
Throughout history there have been some pretty evil things going on, and yet the Church continued.
There’s a reason that the Church is getting older. Possibly it’s because the LOVE generation just stopped going, or wanted to divorce and were asked to leave too hastily…but apparently enough of them stayed to continue to suppport the Church.
Oh by all means I agree, I’m not saying the church will ever support evil teachings like that, after all the modernization as I see it is not on teachings just the way of the tradition on the mass and so forth. I don’t like that at all (modernization of mass), but I would never think the church itself would teach or support evil.

Is there really such a thing as Theology on Tap?
The closest we get is when we have our “Lady’s Tea” and our wonderful Pastor (God Bless him and give him long life) walks around pouring gin into the teacups stating that it’s “Holy Water” (with a wink, of course!)

Being slightly over the age range (and it’s for the married or unmarried), I just have to go cry in my beer at home. 😉

Oh geez oh pete
I feel whoozy just thinking about this.

And people think it’s bad when we have a beer tent at our Parish picnic!

It’s bad if people drink too much and drive but if there are designated drivers and you make sure that you don’t serve minors it’s probably okay. I wouldn’t do it, however. Imagine if there is a terrible accident as a result of that beer tent.
And did you say that your priest gives you gin? I hope that none of you are driving home after that.

I don’t drink.
I sure wouldn’t mix my theology with social drinking even if I did.

I have to ask. Is what you are looking for an EWTN type Holy Mass?
Absolutely. Non-existant in my neck of the woods. The best I can get is some of the Spanish Masses, but then I can’t understand the homily. All the english-language masses are essentially varying degrees of “Southern Baptist w/ the Eucharist”. Although I have found a parish relatively close where the priest gives execellent homilies, and there are only 8extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion for less than 200 parishoners  . I’ve been to 15 different parishes w/in 300 miles and no better luck. Guess maybe I’ll have to learn more Spanish?

Before I found my parish, I had a choice of an “Independent TLM”, Happy Catholic or Polish Language.

I was going to try learning some Polish too.

Nuevo Mejico. Archdiocese of Santa Fe.
I know Fr. Pavone’s “Priests For Life” is in Amarillo (5 hrs away) but I haven’t found anything passin’ thru there either.

Why don’t you know? 😃 People in this age group are supposed to attend Theology on Tap, where they get a dose of theology with a brew; or a margarita; or a glass of wine. Cash bar, of course. How strong or weak the theology discussion depends on the speaker’s chosen topic, how closely the speaker sticks to the topic, and who’s the most loaded by the mid-point.

And I can’t believe this thread rolled into five pages since Thursday!
This may seem hoky and perhaps forbidden…but I have to say that IMHO ther couldn"t be any better place on earth to be having these discussions and debates. I wish you all lived in my neighborhood so we could in fact have a little theology on tap meeting or two! Thanks for teaching and enlivening this for us!

I’m in the same boat. However, even the Spanish Masses here are filled with kookyness. People dancing, laud music, drums, electronic pop sounding pianos, ugh! I put up with alot of it because the priest is a very holy man and he gives great homilies, though I do have to strain to understand him. At least the Saturday Mass has traditional music, but there still is alot of huggy kissy type stuff that goes on.

Sometimes I think that this is my cross to bear in life, very untraditional, irreverant, kooky masses. 😃

I am so sorry San…maybe you are right that the best option is to learn more spanish. Maybe the answer is to attend the spanish masses, learn more spanish…but in the meantime subscribe to websites like this one.

Put up a thread asking for a parish in your area.
You may be surprised what little missions or even hospital chapels have great Holy Masses.

LOL but never forget that the beer tent is a heck of a fundraiser!👍
👍

You’re not that far from us. Come to Detroit and come to a real parish.
We pray hard and play hard.

I’ll PM you for the next Festival!
