To make it “protestant friendly”. I have the document, I’ll look it up and try to post the parts that point it out.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it’s a sin to meditate on these mysteries, but as a chaplet, not “the Rosary.”

Why? Do you believe as do some posters here have intimated that the Rosary itself was incomplete prior to these mysteries being introduced?
I believe that the Rosary was wonderful the way it was and it is still wonderful if you add the Luminous Mysteries. The Luminous Mysteries do not take anything away from the original Mysteries. There is no requirement to pray the Luminous just as there is no requirement to pray the Rosary at all. I ask you this. Is is wrong to meditate on the life and ministry of Jesus? Is it wrong to do it in a way that also honors Mary?

With the Third Mystery, I think not only the Preaching of the Kingdom but the call to conversion and repentance and I pray that our priests will be faithful to this duty also and that many souls will be given the grace of conversion and repentance. I pray for confessors and that more souls will come to confession and so on.
Ave Maria!

Not part of the Rosary given to us by the Mother of God. So no, I do not have anything to do with the Luminous Mysteries. Adding more mysteries would be saying Mary didn’t get it right the first time. People have enough trouble making time for the Rosary we were given by Mary. Adding more mysteries makes it all the more discouraging to keep up. This would be a trick of the devil, not to mention the name luminous is a word associated with the Masonic Order, as they consider themselves illuminated beings that worhship a higher power that is not God. Adding mysteries is another part of the destructive changes that have taken place since the Vatican 2 council that have caused so many to lose their faith.
Well if your waiting for the Blessed Mother to give you a personal invitation to pray the Luminous Mysteries, “Good Luck.” Fact is she told 3 shepard chilren to pray the rosary, then the Church approved it. Or we could say she told Dominic at the time to pray the rosary, and again the church approved it. So, how is it that in the same way that the Luminous Mysteries were introduced to us, through the church, you balk at this one because it might be associated with the illuminati. Oh, that’s right, satan himself wishes us to pray the luminous mysteries because why?
You don’t loose your faith because of what someone did, or say’s you loose your faith because you gave up on it!

Are you serious? Is that for the bunch protestants that do not believe in the Eucharist or for the bunch protestants that do not believe that baptism is necessary and a sacrament?

The luminous mysteries aren’t bad by themself. I didn’t say you would lose your faith by saying them. You are losing your faith by following the destructive changes that were implemented after Vatican 2. Adding the luminous mysteries is one of those changes that detracts from tradition and takes people farther into Protestantism. So many Catholics are really Protestants and don’t even realize it.

Excellent post! 👍

Do you pray the Luminous Mysteries? Why or why not?
Yes because it was a beautiful inspiration by Pope John Paul II’s life of prayer and life of the spirit.

It fills the gap between “the finding of the child Jesus in the temple” and “the agony in the garden”.

The Theotokos surely inspired him.

Oh, please… We really need someone new to come in and assert that we’re not as Catholic as they are–and really just Protestants in disguise–because we happen to not be opposed to everything that happened after 1964. And gosh, we’re just too stupid to even realize it!

While I don’t particularly pray the Luminous mysteries, simply because I got used to praying the rosary the way I grew up with it, there is absolutely nothing Protestant about them. To assert that having them “detracts from tradition” is a total logical fallacy since by that reasoning every single thing that ever became the traditions that traditionalists are so enamored by then detracted from the tradition of its time. That would include everything from praying the rosary at all to adoration to veneration of relics, ad infinitum.

As others have noted, if you don’t like them don’t pray them. That is certainly your option and I tend to stand with you on that. The bashing of the entire Church after Vatican II though, as if the Church wasn’t filled with its problems before that–lots of “traditions” that weren’t very good–is entirely gratuitous.

… Adding the luminous mysteries is one of those changes that detracts from tradition and takes people farther into Protestantism…
Can you please explain how do you arrive to the conclusion that adding the Luminous Mysteries takes people into Protestantism? I do not see the cause effect connection.
Thanks

You mean like those who delude themselves into thinking they’re “more Catholic than the Pope” under the banner of “traditionalists” here? 🤷

I would suggest that all Catholics read Our Holy Father John Paul II’s apostolic letter “Rosarium Virginis Mariae.” It is readily available online.

How anyone can say that praying the Luminous Mysteries, which celebrate a part of the life of our beloved Jesus Christ, makes us protestant is astounding. Those who pray these Mysteries include Mother Angelica who prays the Luminous Mysteries every Thursday with all her Sisters; it also includes Father Corapi who had a program on EWTN dedicated to the Luminous Mysteries.

As Pope John Paul II states in his Apostolic Letter:

"I believe, …, that to bring out fully the Christological depth of the Rosary it would be suitable to make an addition to the traditional pattern which, while left to the freedom of individuals and communities, could broaden it to include the mysteries of Christ’s public ministry between his Baptism and his Passion. In the course of those mysteries we contemplate important aspects of the person of Christ as the definitive revelation of God. Declared the beloved Son of the Father at the Baptism in the Jordan, Christ is the one who announces the coming of the Kingdom, bears witness to it in his works and proclaims its demands. It is during the years of his public ministry that the mystery of Christ is most evidently a mystery of light ‘While I am in the world, I am the light of the world’ (Jn 9:5).

This addition of these new mysteries without prejudice to any essential aspect of the prayer’s traditional format, is meant to give it fresh life and to enkindle renewed interest in the Rosary’s place within Christian spirituality as a true doorway to the depths of the Heart of Christ, ocean of joy and of light, of suffering and of glory…" (Chp.II, No. 19.)

Let us stop this nonsense of implying that we who pray the Luminous Mysteries are somehow less “Catholic” than you who, for whatever your agenda, do not.:knight2::knight1:

:highprayer:

You need to read up on what the Protestant Reformation was. A monk named Martin Luther didn’t agree with what the Catholic Church was teaching, i.e certain doctrins and the sale of induldences. So he was opposing what the Catholic Church was teaching at the time and saw fit to lead himself and many others away from the Church. He was later excummunicated from the Catholic Church.
I don’t see how one is lead away into protestism by following what the Catholic Church is teaching. You might want to consider yourself a protestant.

If someone wants to pray the luminous mysteries they surely can. But it should not be considered part of the Rosary. The disussion of the the luminous mysteries leads to bigger issues facing the Church. The Church has always been under attack from Satan. The visable results from what was implemeted after Vatican 2 shows Satan has got a bigger foothold then ever. The Church today that I would call the Norvus Ordo version is not the true church, but a corrupted version that resembles Protestantism more then Catholism. Adding the luminous mysteries is part of the feel-goodism that people think they have to have to get anything out of going to church.
Adding mysteries to the rosary is not in keeping with previous teaching from Mary and Jesus. Trying to do so would be arrogant and prideful in my opinion.

I’ve been reading this thread since I posted in it back on page three. I fully realize that the Luminous Mysteries are not required, just as the Rosary itself is not required. But when I read that it is dangerous or makes Catholics into Protestants for praying them, I really don’t know what to say. How can it be bad to meditate on Our Lord’s public ministry, which is what the Luminous Mysteries are? I’m very confused about how meditating on God’s greatest gift to us, His Son in the Holy Eucharist (the fifth luminous mystery), makes us Protestants.

So, are you saying you don’t go to mass anymore either?
